ABERYSTWYTH University Thirds rose to the occasion as they lifted the Cambrian Tyres Aberystwyth and District League’s Second Division Trophy with a 2-1 win over Dolgellau Reserves at Park Avenue.

The first half was dominated by the students, but they were unable to break the deadlock until after the interval when Jamie Stuart rounded the keeper to score.

Stuart also got the second goal of the game in a similar fashion, and although George-Townshend Jackson replied for Dolgellau, it proved nothing more than a consolation for the Meirionnydd side.

Skipper Michael Jones lifted the trophy for the students, whose First team had also won the Spar Mid Wales League ER Jenkins Division Two Cup this season.

Talybont Reserves have been crowned as champions of the Cambrian Tyres Aberystwyth division two in their first season under the management team of Des Roberts, Evan Rowlands and Owain Jones.

Chris Wylde top scored with 18 goals in all competitions, with Anthony Vasquez and Jamie Evans chipping in with nine as they pipped Dolgellau Reserves and Aberystwyth University Thirds to the title.

It capped a great season for the Talybont club, after the First team won the Cambrian Tyres League Cup and finished third in the division one table behind champions Bont and runners-up Bow Street Reserves.

Talybont ended their division one campaign with a 2-0 win over Aberystwyth University Reserves on Thursday with Bari Southgate and Jamie Evans scoring.

They now look to next season with slight uncertainty, due to the present arrangement on their pitch ceasing this summer, and with no alternative yet arranged.

The students had also lost 7-2 to Penrhyncoch Reserves two days earlier as four goals from Liam Doherty, two from Arron Lemon and one from Harri Horwood lifted Penrhyncoch off the bottom, whilst Shaun Roberts scored both replies.

Tregaron Turfs finished their season in fifth position, after beating Aberystwyth University Reserves 10-1 last weekend.

Four goals by Rhun Garner took his tally to 41 for the season, whilst Ifan Jones and Martin Rees both netted twice, along with goals by Nigel Jones and Dylan Davies.
