Aberystwyth Town FC will not play any matches during the Welsh Government’s Firebreak.

The national lockdown from 6pm on Friday, 23 October until Monday, 9 November will have an impact on football in Wales with the suspension of the elite programme during the firebreak period.

As a result, Aberystwyth’s matches against Caernarfon Town at the Oval on Saturday, and the two home games, against Penbont on 30 October and Newtown on 6 November, are postponed.

Rearranged dates will be communicated in due course.

The Welsh Government did stipulate that clubs with a sufficient amount of professional players, coaches and operational staff in the JD Cymru Premier will have their fixtures re-arranged to allow them to continue playing against each other.

"Sportspeople who work and earn a living through sport are allowed to continue working, and like everyone else they can leave home to do so if they cannot work from home.

“Fixtures involving professional sportspeople are allowed to continue behind closed doors.

“All participants, such as players, officials, coaches, and broadcasters, are there in a working capacity."

The JD Cymru Premier League consulted with its Member Clubs and decided to sanction some fixtures between clubs who could safely meet the stipulated criteria.

In common with the majority of Cymru Premier Clubs, Aberystwyth Town FC rely heavily on unpaid directors and club volunteers to host and play matches, and as such do not have sufficient professional staff to fully meet the stated requirements during this difficult period.

The New Saints v Haverfordwest County will be the only match to take place in the JD Cymru Premier League this weekend. The game will be shown live on Sgorio with kick-off at 5.15pm.
