A HAT-TRICK by Ffion Wyn capped a superb performance from Aberystwyth Town Ladies as they swiftly returned to winning ways in the Women’s Welsh Premier League with a 4-0 success away at Newcastle Emlyn on Sunday.

After their disappointing 2-0 defeat against PILCS, the Seasiders made the perfect response by lifting themselves back up to fifth place in the league table.

Emlyn, still seeking their first league win of the season, struggled to make their impact on a very heavy pitch, and Aber dominated for long spells.

They broke the deadlock on 19 minutes when some solid midfield play earned the Seasiders a corner, and Naomi Evans lofted in a ball for Ffion Wyn to bang home from six yards.

Emlyn found themselves having to defend deep, and they fell further behind in the 33rd minute when Tania Wylde played a superb through ball to Katie White, who slotted her first goal for the club, to the keeper’s left.

After the break, the visitors maintained their pressure on the Newcastle Emlyn defence, with some good scoring opportunities being created in for Gabi Hughes and Ffion Wyn.

Persistent running by Aber captain Ffiona Evans forced another corner on the 54th minute, and Naomi Evans whipped in an excellent flag kick for Ffion Wyn to grab her second with a cool back heeled finish in the box.

Recent new signing Hannah Pusey stepped off the bench on 70 minutes to make her senior debut, with the impressive Katie White coming off, and Aber remained in firm control.

The three points were secured when Stephanie Land won the ball back in midfield and played a lovely through ball to Ffion Wyn, who dispatched it into the bottom corner on 73 minutes, to complete her first senior hat-trick.

The win will leave Aber in good heart for this Sunday’s home match against second-from-bottom Cwmbran Celtic at Park Avenue (ko 2pm).

Elsewhere in the Women’s Welsh Premier League, Cardiff Met moved 14 points clear at the top with an emphatic 8-1 victory at MBi Llandudno.

Emily Allen and Erin Murray had the students 2-0 up inside eight minutes, with Todd getting a third and Allen netting her second by the break.

The hosts pulled one back soon after the restart through Rosie Hughes, but Murray then doubled her tally, before Stacy Ayling scored with a free kick, Murray completed her hat-trick and Georgia Bridges lobbed another goal.

Rhyl and Prestatyn shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw against Port Talbot.

• Shaunna Jenkins, from Aberaeron, who now plays for Cwmbran Celtic Ladies, and Newcastle Emlyn goalkeeper Jo Price have been selected to represent Wales in the Cyprus Cup.

They will travel with the team to Ayia Napa on 29 February to compete in the competition with eight participating nations - Finland, Republic of Ireland, Wales, Italy, Hungary, Poland, Austria and Czech Republic.
