ABERYSTWYTH Town Ladies lost ground in the Women’s Welsh Premier League as they slipped to a 2-0 defeat to close rivals PILCS at Park Avenue last Sunday.

Looking to consolidate a mid-table position after their win at Rhyl in their last league outing, the Seasiders were unable to take their chances as the visitors took their chances to claim the points.

PILCS had arrived with only 10 players, with two making their Premier debuts, and Aber held the upper hand early on, without testing the keeper.

Having soaked the Seasiders’ pressure up, it was the visitors who broke the deadlock when a sublime pass from Amy Thrupp found Jassie Vasconcelos in the box, and she lifted the ball over the advancing keeper to open the scoring.

The second half saw PILCS begin to take control, but Aber worked hard to deny them a second goal as Thrupp and Shauna Pentney both went close to finding the home net.

With time running out, Aber were still in the game, but the visitors finally sealed victory when the impressive Thrupp was sent through to calmly slot home and secure the win.

It was a disappointing defeat for the Seasiders, and PILCS’ fourth league win of the season lifted them two points clear of Aber with a game in hand.

Aberystwyth’s next league game is away to local rivals Newcastle Emlyn this Sunday, and the Seasiders will be keen to pick up crucial points against the Reds, who are still seeking their first league win of the season after eight games.
