BLAENAU Ffestiniog Amateurs found themselves outscored as Mynydd Llandegai made a winning start to 2016 within the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance division two with a 4-3 triumph.
Before the match, players and supporters stood in a minute’s silence in memory of the late Leslie Hicks, a faithful supporter of the home club for many seasons and passed away recently.
As has become the norm in most of their matches this season, the Quarrymen fell behind early on when Liam Willingham fired the visiting side ahead with just five minutes gone.
Bryn Humphreys tested visiting keeper David Ball, which resulted in a corner kick which came to nothing, but on 14 minutes the scores were level. The visitors had a free kick on the edge of the penalty area, which was blocked, and a quick counter-attack resulted in a great move, with David Copsey scoring.
The visitors were always dangerous in attack, with their manager Mark Hughes leading his side well, and the nearest they came to getting back in front before the break was when Gethin Jeffries went clear on goal and sent his effort over the bar.
Within six minutes of the second half the visitors regained the lead with another Willingham effort, but then Copsey forced a good save.
Around the hour Willingham completed his hat-trick, but then just two minutes later Copsey made it 3-2.
The home side were then caught in possession in midfield far too often, putting unnecessary pressure on their defence, and Wyn Morris had a clear chance but shot over.
On 78 minutes the visitors were awarded a penalty, when keeper Aron Aspen was adjudged to have fouled in the area, and up stepped Mark Hughes to make it 4-2.
Still there was time for the home side to get a third goal on 89 minutes through Terry Hughes, and in the very last minute Bryn Humphreys had a chance to equalise, but David Ball blocked his last gasp effort.
It is away at Gaerwen on Saturday for the Amateurs, in a match between the two bottom clubs of the league.
