BLAENAU Ffestiniog Amateurs had only themselves to blame for their 1-0 defeat to Llanerchymedd in the Welsh Alliance division two - as they were left to rue a missed a penalty and two red cards in the last 15 minutes for abusive language.
The Quarrymen had to rearrange their defence after Cai Hughes had become the fourth player to leave the club by signing for neighbours Penrhyndeudraeth, following on from keeper Tyler French, top scorer Meilir Williams and Sion Bradley.
Blaenau opened well and they forced two early corner kicks - but the visitors thought they had scored on 10 minutes when Mathew Jones was ruled offside.
The ball just ran away from Gareth Roberts as he bore down on the visitors’ goal, but at the other end Aron Aspen was called upon to keep out a goal-bound effort from visiting captain Gavin Sharpe.
The hosts were then rewarded with a penalty on 33 minutes when Keiron Ellis was brought down, and up stepped Geraint Edwards, only to see his strike well saved by Peter Finn low to his right.
The visitors had a couple of half chances, but the scoreline stayed 0-0 at the break.
Llanerchymedd’s full back Dylan Owen cleared a goal-bound effort from Alun Hughes, with home keeper Finn beaten, and the keeper made a fine save to stop David Copsey from opening the scoring.
The Amateurs, however, were reduced to 10 men when goalkeeper Aspen was sent off for his second yellow card for comments he made to the official, with Alun Hughes taking over the No 1 shirt.
Within minutes things got even worse as David Copsey was shown a straight red card for abusive language towards the ref.
Two minutes after the home side had been reduced to nine players Mathew Jones headed the winning goal for the visitors, and there was to be no way back.
