TYWYN/Bryncrug slipped to back-to-back defeats as they followed up a 3-1 defeat at Spar Mid Wales League division one leaders Rhayader Town on Good Friday with a 2-1 defeat at home to Llanrhaeadr on Easter Monday.

Rhayader had struggled to penetrate the Tywyn defence at Y Weirglodd, until the 38th minute when Gareth Hughes stabbed home Mark Davies’ corner to open the scoring.

Tywyn were back on terms within seconds when Christian Jones saw red for handling in the area and Aled Jones converted the resulting penalty.

Ten-man Rhayader toiled and regained their lead early in the second-half as Ashley Jones scrambled home.

Rhayader secured their hard fought victory when Tom Bethell curled home a free-kick from an acute angle, before Ifan Burrell met Mattie Lewis’ cross to head home and leave Rhayader now on the verge of title glory.

Second-from-bottom Tywyn were also beaten 3-1 by Llanrhaeadr on Bank Holiday Monday, despite Aled Jones netting for the home side.

Elsewhere Welshpool Town maintained their stirring end of season form with a 3-0 win at Radnor Valley.

The Lilywhites led on half-time when Ricky Litchfield went down in the penalty area and Will Pritchard confidently converted from the spot.

Sam Evans doubled the lead from the edge of the area on the hour, before Litchfield completed the tally and his side’s third win on the trot, courtesy of a fine individual strike.

Knighton Town’s bare squad of just 11 players returned from Tanllan with three hard fought points following a 2-1 win way at Llanrhaeadr.

Sam Williams’ goal gave the Robins the edge, but Iain Edmunds levelled for the hosts near the end of the first-half, before Adam Farmer netted the winner for bare bones Knighton.

Elsewhere Tony Meredith was the match winner as Montgomery Town savoured a rare 1-0 win over Hay St Marys to give caretaker manager Lee Jones his first win back at the helm.

Borth United’s promotion hopes were shattered in the Spar Mid Wales League division two as their 1-0 defeat to Dyffryn Banw at Park Avenue meant they were pipped at the post to second place by rivals Churchstoke.

Alwyn Jones weaved his way into the penalty area and squeezed the ball passed keeper Sean Gates for the only goal of the game on 15 minutes.

The result confirmed Kerry as division two champions, whilst Churchstoke crept above Borth on goal difference on Saturday as Jamie Beaton, Joe Haycock and Neil Yapp earned them a 3-0 win over Four Crosses.

Kerry had secured their promotion in midweek when goals from Luke Mumford and Daryl McWhatt had earned a 2-2 draw with Churchstoke.

Joe Haycock and Andrew Green netted for the visitors, but the draw meant that Kerry moved three points clear, with superior goal difference.

Penybont meanwhile beat Dolgellau 3-2, with goals from Emrys Thomas, Jack Murphy and Jake Bufton, whilst Dion Jones and Joe Ephraim replied for the Meirionnydd men.
