ABERYSTWYTH University are now up to the dizzy heights of fourth in the Spar Mid Wales League division two after notching up back-to-back wins last weekend.
The students overcame Newbridge 2-1 on Saturday, before hammering basement side Four Crosses 8-1 the following day for their biggest win of the season.
It was tough going in the wind against Newbridge, but the students dug in to secure the spoils with a goal in each half from Matthew Hunton and Niall Jones.
Chances were few and far between in tricky conditions, with the hosts going ahead with their first real attack when Liam Powell’s cross bounced about, and Hunton smashed the loose ball into the roof of the net.
A young Newbridge side were not causing too many problems, but they got back on terms just before half time when converting a rebound after a shot from a long throw-in was parried.
The students were not to be denied and came out for the second half with a battling approach that saw them grab a crucial second goal when Niall Jones crashed home a free kick from the edge of the box.
Conditions were far calmer on Sunday, as the Uni maintained their impressive run with an 8-1 romp at home to Four Crosses.
Rian Devlin continued his rich vein of form with four goals in the first half as the hosts opened up a 5-1 interval lead, with Liam Powell, getting their other goal.
Powell then netted his second after the break with a superb lob from the edge of the box, before Tom Spicer and a Carwyn Eckley penalty completed the scoring.
