BALA Town boss Colin Caton is looking for his side to get their Welsh Premier League campaign back on track when they welcome winless Carmarthen Town to Maes Tegid on Saturday (ko 2.30pm).

Caton voiced his frustration after his side slipped to a narrow 1-0 defeat at last season’s league runners-up Connah’s Quay in an evenly-contested match at the Deeside last Friday evening.

Michael Wilde headed home what proved to be the only goal of the game with two minutes of the first half remaining, following a defensive slip, to earn Andy Morrison’s men the points.

The Lakesiders, however, felt that they deserved at least a point in a hard-fought and sometimes heated encounter, which saw Ryan Wignall sent off for the hosts.

“I thought that we dominated the game, we were the only team trying to score on the floor, and in open play,” said Caton.

“I’m really proud of the lads tonight, they’ve done really well, but they just need to be better in the attacking third. I don’t think our keeper has had a save to make, and they’ve hardly troubled us.”

Caton’s preparations were also frustrated by there being no lights in the visitors’ dressing room, meaning his half-time team talk was conducted on the pitch.

“We didn’t have any lights in the changing room before the game or during half-time, so we had to do the team talk on the pitch, and without drinks,” said Caton.

“They had 45 minutes to get it right before the game, and they still hadn’t done it by half-time. Maybe it was a technical fault, but it does seem very strange.”

All attention will now turn to the visit of Carmarthen, who are bottom of the table after four games - but have been on the road for every game so far due to the installation of a 3G surface at Richmond Park.

With Bala’s other top six contenders all playing each other this weekend, they will see this fixture as a big opportunity to get back onto level terms with the likes of The New Saints, Bangor City, Connah’s Quay and Cardiff Met.

Caton’s men have already got away games against The New Saints and The Nomads out of the way, and having beaten Newtown and Cardiff Met at home, a win would put them in a strong position.

Two Bala wins and two draws were the outcome of last season’s four games against the Old Gold - and Caton is looking for a positive result ahead of their trip to face Cefn Druids next Thursday.

Anthony Stephens is still recovering from a knee injury, but the Lakesiders have no further injury worries.
