BALA Town had to twice hit back to secure a 2-2 draw at the Oval as Danny Brookwell’s two spectacular goals for Caernarfon Town lifted the bumper crowd of 932 last Friday.

The hosts started very brightly under the floodlights and Noah Edwards went close to opening the scoring, before they made the breakthrough on 12 minutes.

Darren Thomas found Danny Brookwell just outside the penalty area and he burst past two Bala defenders, before drilling past goalkeeper Ashley Morris.

The visitors were fortunate not to go a second goal down two minutes later as Morris parried a Nathan Craig free-kick from under his bar, and Jamie Breese saw two efforts bounce off the post and bar.

The Lakesiders escaped a strong penalty appeal in the 20th minute when Noah Edwards went to ground in the box, but referee Tom Owen let the action continue.

Caernarfon continued to dominate possession and Nathan Craig was next to threaten when his free-kick beat the keeper, but bounced off the bar to safety.

Brookwell also shot wide from eight yards out, after another dazzling run into the penalty area, and Kieran Smith got in the way of a Jamie Crowther effort.

The Lakesiders escaped again a minute later when Edwards put Jamie Breese through and the striker saw his low effort come off the upright, with Morris beaten.

Caernarfon, however, were made to pay on the stroke of half-time when Chris Venables got his head to a Henry Jones free-kick and directed the ball past Ramsay to fortunately level the scores at the break.

Yet, Bala were stunned when Brookwell turned on the style again three minutes into the second half to restore the lead.

Picking the ball up midway in his own half, he burst past three Bala defenders and placed the ball beyond the reach of Morris and into the far corner of the net.

That lead lasted just six minutes, however, as the Cofis failed to clear a cross into the box and Nathan Burke nodded on for Steven Tames, who blasted home.

Both sides pressed forward at every opportunity, with Crowther seeing his effort on the turn sail over, whilst Henry Jones thought he had given Bala the lead, only for the effort to be flagged for offside.

In the final quarter, with Breese, Brookwell and Thomas threatened Morris’ goal, but the hosts escaped a massive goalmouth scramble in the 86th minute.

Alex Ramsay pulled off two excellent saves to deny both Sean Smith and Tames, and Ryan Williams then cleared an effort off his line from Mike Hayes, before the Canaries finally cleared the ball to safety.
