BALA Town’s proud 100 per cent record at Maes Tegid as ended as a an early goal from Momodou Touray proved enough for resurgent Barry Town to edge a narrow 1-0 away win.
Wales Under-21s international striker Touray, on loan from Newport County, slotted home after just eight minutes, after the hosts had lost possession on the left flank, and there was no way back for Colin Caton’s men.
The Lakesiders had gone into the encounter on the back of five straight league wins at home, but found their in-form visitors a tough nut to crack.
They could have salvaged something from the game in the second half, but the normally reliable Chris Venables crashed a penalty over the bar following handball in the box.
Bala’s assistant boss Stephen Fisher felt the Lakesiders deserved at least share of the spoils against a Barry side who are now up to joint second position, and one point off top spot.
“They edged the first half, but we controlled possession in the second and had a couple of good chances, but in the end were not clinical enough in the final third,” commented Fisher.
“Over the 90 minutes, we’re disappointed not to get anything from it.”
Bala had made a positive response to falling behind, with Ian Sheridan firing over after good work from Chris Venables and Tames, who also saw a half volley go wide after 27 minutes.
Nathan Burke’s powerful strike from the edge of the box was brilliantly blocked by defender Luke Cooper, but at the other end Touray was creating plenty of problems and he forced a good save from keeper Ashley Morris.
Sheridan saw another shot saved by Mike Lewis, but the Lakesiders went into the interval still a goal down.
Bala remained on the front foot in the second half, with Tames and Kieran Smith unable to capitalise on chances, before a fine one-two between Smith and Venables lead to Tames having a shot blocked from six yards out.
The dangerous Touray came close again when he fired over the woodwork, but the Lakesiders were then handed a lifeline on 77 minutes.
A penalty was awarded for handball in the box, but Venables’ strong effort flew over the bar to sum up a very frustrating afternoon for the hosts.
In the final minute, another Tames effort was blocked, but Barry held firm to notch their eight league win.
