BARMOUTH and Dyffryn United avenged a Welsh Alliance division one defeat at Pwllheli earlier in the season by edging a 2-1 win over their rivals in the Wern Mynach return.

Carl Ryan’s side conceded an early goal to Pwllheli’s Llion Bryn Jones on 12 minutes, whose lofted shot from the right beat keeper Tyler French.

Barmouth, however, equalised two minutes into the second half, when Shane Jones swept over a threatening corner from the left for the ball to finish up in the back of the net, debatably off Pwllheli’s Samuel Pritchard.

Jones delivered again on 65 minutes when curling a right-footed in-swinger from the left that eluded everyone, including Pwllheli keeper Gethin Roberts in the crowded goalmouth.

Shane Jones, Paul Lewis and George Sutherns continued to press for Barmouth, while Pwllheli looked to Mark Jones and Dylan Sion Jones to rescue their cause in the closing stages.

Nantlle Vale’s relegation concerns were compounded by a 12th defeat in 15 outings in a 3-0 defeat at St Asaph.

The hosts inflicted the damage in the closing quarter, through goals from John Taylor on 71 minutes, Carl Murray on 78 and John Terry on 83.

Fellow strugglers Trearddur Bay United also lost 3-0 to third-from-top visitors Llanrwst United, who hit goals through Matthew Mullender on six minutes, Elliott Llewelyn on 36 and Mike Lundstrum on 47 minutes.

Llanberis won 4-1 at Llandyrnog United, thanks to Stefan Jones scoring on 30 and 82 minutes, Callum McDonald on 38 and Lewis Williams on 44, with Josh Taylor replying on 56.

• Penrhyndeudraeth bowed out of the Mawddach Cup with a 3-1 defeat in their first time visit to Llannefydd.

The Welsh Alliance division two hosts, unbeaten at home so far, dominated the second half by adapting better to the testing heavy conditions.

Penrhyn were without three key defenders in Cedri Lloyd, Liam Watson, Jack Jones and their re-jigged line-up had some players out of position, but they opened the scoring when Huw Quaeck turned his marker to blast into the roof of the net on 14 minutes.

Llannefydd’s Owain Roberts equalised on the half hour, however, and winning goals were scored in the second half by Sam Jones on 58 minutes and Roberts with a killer third on 84.

Prestatyn Sports won their first round tie against Mynydd Llandygai with a 4-3 penalty shoot-out, after finishing level at 2-2 after extra-time.

Prestatyn scored through Tom McDonald on 80 minutes and Ian Griffiths on 96, while Mynydd’s Alex Branford netted on 65 and Craig Whittaker on 118 with a penalty.

Meanwhile Llandudno Albion were awarded their home tie against Cemaes Bay, after the Anglesey side withdrew from the competition.
