FIRST half goals by Elwyn Edwards and Rob Murfet earned Barmouth and Dyffryn United a 2-1 home win over St Asaph City, to move up a couple of positions to 11th place in the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance division one.
Llyr Hughes’s team had been beaten 4-2 at St Asaph in early season, and they quickly set out for revenge.
Defender Edwards opened the scoring on 20 minutes with a looping header, and Murfet doubled the lead before the interval, when skipping around a couple of markers to net from close in.
Barmouth also rued near-misses by Shane Jones, Chris Wilkins, Ieuan Brookes and Murfet, but St Asaph hit back well after the interval.
Their only breakthrough, however, came on 75 minutes when Paul Fleming converted a penalty, after a disputed foul inside the box.
High flying Penrhyndeudraeth settled for a share of the spoils with a 1-1 draw away at Llandyrnog United.
The sixth-placed hosts had taken the lead on 31 minutes through Mark Roberts, who steered a left angled 12 yards’ shot beyond keeper Rob Watson, after a big clearance from the defence.
Penrhyn’s Neil Thomas and Tom Smith both went close, as did Mark Cook after the break, but only three minutes remained when Carwyn Price finally hammered the equaliser, after Smith’s cross from the left, to earn a crucial away point.
Pwllheli, who beat Greenfield 2-1 at home in January, were beaten 4-0 in their return match at the Deeside.
Having held their own for half-an-hour, Pwllheli were plunged into arrears when Sean McKean scored on 38 minutes, and that lead was doubled by Connor Hughes just before the interval.
Greenfield sealed their win with second half goals from Sam Watson on 55 minutes and Connor Hughes, with his second strike, after 88.
Leaders Glantraeth registered a 14th league win from 18 games by beating the bottom club Glan Conwy 4-1.
Top scorer Corrig McGonigle completed a hat-trick in the first half, on 16, 17 and 39 minutes, followed by Carwyn Jones with the other goal on 74, while Glan Conwy were left with no more than an own-goal on 53.
Llandudno Junction leapfrogged into second place, one point behind Glantraeth, but having played two more games, with a 5-2 victory away at Nantlle Vale.
Aaron Boyle netted on two minutes, Merrick Knight on 38, Brian Roberts on 54, Dean Seager on 80 and Joel Hewitt on 90 from a penalty.
Nantlle Vale were on par at 2-2 at half-time, with replies from Rhys Williams on 41 minutes and Aaron Hughes on 44 from the penalty spot.
Trearddur Bay United conceded ground advantage by switching their home game with Abergele to their opponents’ 3G pitch at Llandudno but still dominated 5-1.
Bay’s nap-hand of goals was achieved by Rhys Brown after 28 minutes, Danny Connelly on 44, Ian Williams on 75, Asa Thomas on 82 and Miles Jones on 87.
Llanrwst United had to be content with a 1-0 result at Gwydyr Park against Llanberis, and that was secured by Nathan Whiteley’s goal five minutes from the end.
