BARMOUTH and Dyffryn United remain worryingly close to the relegation zone in the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance division one after they followed up a 6-0 midweek defeat at home to Penrhyndeudraeth with a 2-1 defeat at Llandyrnog United.

Barmouth had gone into Saturday’s match level on points with their hosts, only to fall slightly behind on 22 minutes to Connor Jones’ opener for the hosts.

With player-boss Paul Lewis’ interval pep-talk ringing in their ears, United stepped up and gained a deserved equaliser from Joe Ephraim on 55 minutes.

After that, both sides probed for a winning goal in the closing half an hour or so, and it was snapped up by Llandyrnog’s Connor Jones again on 74 minutes.

In midweek, Barmouth were very much second best in a rearranged home fixture with Penrhyndeudraeth, which produced a stark 6-0 win for Gareth Piercey’s men.

Meilir Williams was the inspiration of Penrhyn’s spree, scoring four goals – after one minute, 15, 35 and 49 – to raise his individual tally to 13 goals for the season so far, and propel him to the top of the division one goal-scorers’ charts.

Alun Hughes and Steve Jones netted Penrhyn’s other goals, past Barmouth’s stand-in keeper Stuart Pilling, with regular Adam Walters unavailable, as the team from Maes-y-Parc enjoyed their best performance and result so far this season.

Elsewhere on Saturday, when all four Welsh Alliance home teams emerged as winners, the division one leaders Llangefni Town made it 2-0 over Prestatyn Sports, thanks to goals in the first half.

Kevin Lloyd had opened the Talwrn Road side’s account on 31 minutes and Liam Morris doubled the lead just before half-time, with the second spell being dominated by the respective defences.

Bodedern regained second place in the table with a 5-1 victory over St Asaph City, with Shaun Jenkins scoring twice on 11 and 55 minutes, with single goals being provided by Casey Boylan on 53, James McMinamin on 72 and Aden Clarke on 84, with John Terry replying on 44.

Greenfield overcame visitors Llandudno Albion 3-1, with a Danny Calvert penalty on 66 minutes and Liam Sumner on 78 and 81 minutes. Peter Jones had opened the scoring for the visitors on 20 minutes.

Lock Stock Welsh Alliance Division Two

BLAENAU Ffestiniog Amateurs saw their lead at the top of the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance division two trimmed to four points, but they now have three games in hand on second-placed Kinmel Bay, who eased to a 4-1 win at Mochdre Sports.

Kieran Ellis, Jordan Worthington and Ashley Wood, with a brace, did the damage for the away side, with Niall Owen scoring for the hosts.

Elsewhere, Richard Roberts was a hat-trick hero as Aberffraw romped to a 4-0 win at Meliden, with David Harper also on the mark.

Richard Orme, Rob Marshall-Jones and Jordan Thomas netted for Glan Conwy in a 3-1 victory at Amlwch Town, who had replied through Jude Gallagher.

Elsewhere Andy Booker scored twice and Josh Grant once to earn Colwyn Bay a 3-0 decision at Kinmel Bay in the Reserves Division.

A Jake Rowlands brace and Matthew Blake earned Llandyrnog United Reserves a 3-2 win away at Penmaenmawr Phoenix Reserves, who scored goals through Troy Yates and Zion Davies.

Prestatyn Town Reserves hammered Llangefni Town Reserves 8-0, Matthew Griffiths leading the way with a hat-trick. Sam Duffy scored twice, and Sam Warhurst, Macaulay Taylor and Aaron White also scored goals.
