BLAENAU Ffestiniog Amateurs ended last season’s Welsh Alliance division two campaign in the bottom spot after Llanllyfni’s resignation - but after 90 minutes of the new season they are on top, thanks to a convincing 7-0 win over Cemaes Bay.
Having beaten Llysfaen 7-1 in their last friendly match, Blaenau were on top from the start, with some fine attacking play.
Carwyn Jones and Alun Hughes went close to open the scoring, and then in a five minute spell they were 3-0 ahead.
Sion Roberts opened the scoring on 19 minutes, and Bryn Humphreys doubled the lead a minute later, before Keiron Ellis extended Blaenau’s lead on 24 minutes.
Visiting keeper Dan Jones was called upon to make some good saves, and when he was beaten the post came to his rescue to keep another Keiron Ellis out of the net.
Before the break, Ellis created a chance for Alun Hughes to make it 4-0, and as the first half ended Bryn Humphreys’ goal-bound effort was diverted for a corner.
Within three minutes of the restart it was 5-0, with another good goal from Sion Roberts, and with the home side dominating play it was no surprise when Carwyn Jones set up the chance for Bryn Humphreys to make it 6-0 just after the hour.
The home side made several changes from there on, but they still had most of the play, and substitute Davd Copsey went close to finding the net, before he found Bryn Humphreys unmarked to complete the scoring and his hat-trick.
The Amateurs will have been at Felinheli this midweek, with several of the team unable to play due to working restrictions. On Saturday they have a tough Welsh Cup qualifying round tie at home to Llandyrnog of the Alliance division one.
