AFTER their heavy defeat at Greenfield, Blaenau Ffestiniog Amateurs made the perfect response to emerge as worthy 2-1 winners against Halkyn in the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance division two.
The welcome win moved them within three points of their Clwyd opponents, but they have a massive six games in hand.
The home side had started the match with a much stronger line-up, with only Gareth Roberts and Iwan Jones missing, and they were quickly on the attack.
Alun Hughes went close to opening the scoring, only for Ryan Roberts to block his effort - but the deadlock was soon broken on 10 minutes.
Keiron Ellis, who had a fine match after his long lay off due to injury, found the net with a very well-taken goal.
The visitors hardly troubled Arron Aspen in the home goal, and their best early chance fell to John Duffield, who saw his final effort fly high over the bar.
Keiron Ellis then went close with a fine solo effort, before the home side doubled their score on 32 minutes when a cross-come-shot from Bryn Humphreys on the right ended up in the visitors’ net.
Humphreys had another chance to add to the score before the interval, but after the break it was the visitors who opened strongly, without really troubling keeper Aspen.
At the other end, Ellis saw beat a few defenders with a fine run, and laid the ball across goal to David Copsey, who was inches from diverting the ball into the net.
The visitors replied in the 82nd minute through Sean Williams, but Blaenau held firm in the closing minutes.
