BONT have maintained their three point lead at the top of the Cambrian Tyres Aberystwyth and District League division one with a 5-0 win against Talybont.

It had promised to be another tight game against last season’s title rivals, as was the opening league fixture, but unfortunately for the visiting side, it didn’t go to plan.

In a quiet first half, Bont made the breakthrough when Andrew Carree was pushed in the box, and the experienced scorer got up to slot home the penalty.

Bont also had a goal disallowed five minutes later, but Talybont pushed on before half-time, without finding an equaliser.

The second half was a different story as Ben Lewis tapped home Bont’s second goal, after good work by David Beck, and then the youngster got his goal when finding space to fire low beyond the keeper.

Talybont had a good chance to get back in the game when Christian Jones pounced on a defensive error, but he couldn’t lift the ball over Trevor Jenkins.

Beck crucially got his second goal when his pace saw him get between the last man and keeper to slot home from 12 yards.

There was still time for one more goal as good work from Dion Davies found Osian Davies, who set up fellow substitute Tristan Jenkins to seal Bont’s sixth league win from as many matches so far this season.

After a run of cup games through September, Tregaron Turfs were in league action for the first time since August, and they kept up their pressure on the leaders with a solid 6-0 win over Borth Reserves.

Tregaron quickly took control of the possession and created chances through wingers Llion Thomas and Dylan Davies.

Borth held on for 20 minutes, but the Turfs broke the deadlock on 20 minutes through Carwyn Earey, with a spectacular overhead kick from the edge of the box into the bottom right corner of the net.

The prolific Earey made it 2-0 soon afterwards, when latching onto an Ifan Jones pass, to finish in to the bottom left corner.

Borth had to defend a number of high quality crosses from Llion Thomas, but on 40 minutes, Earey completed his hat-trick, with his 14th goal in just nine games.

The goal came from a well worked short corner, with Earey smashing home from the edge of the box, into the roof of the net.

After the break, Tregaron squandered a number of chances, but a fourth goal came on 65 minutes, with Llion Thomas finishing from inside the six yard box, after an inch-perfect cross from Dylan Davies.

Thomas, a summer signing from Llanilar, was a constant thorn in Borth’s side and he popped up again on 70 minutes to score with a first time finish from inside the box, to cap a man of the match display.

Borth had some good spells, but on 75 minutes, Tomos Lewis was fouled in the penalty box, and Llyr Davies fired his spot kick home into the bottom right corner.

It was another pleasing performance from Tregaron, and their fifth clean sheet of the season - but the only negative was an ankle injury on 80 minutes to their star striker Earey, which is likely to see him miss the Turfs’ next couple of matches.

Llanon took their chance to move level on points with Penparcau at the top of division two as they produced an excellent performance to beat visiting Aberdyfi 5-1.

Two early goals by Tom Williams were followed up by a brace from Bradley Dibble, which included a superb 40 yard chip, and Robin Lovatt completed the scoring with another excellent long distance effort. Ian Lawton replied for Aberdyfi.

Aberystwyth University Reserves progressed to the second round of the Newman Memorial Trophy as a Gytis Pivnickas brace and Calum Simmons’ goal sealed a 3-0 win over Padarn United Reserves.
