BONT made the most of their opportunity to play as they beat Borth United Reserves 4-1, to close the gap on the Cambrian Tyres Aberystwyth and District League division one leaders.

First half goals from Ben Lewis, Lee Jones, with a brace, and Fergus Morris proved enough in very difficult playing conditions, to move Bont within three points of Bow Street Reserves at the top, with two games in hand on the leaders.

The match had survived the rain from earlier in the week, but a strong wind made it difficult to play decent football.

The hosts, however, went ahead when Ben Lewis brilliantly volleyed into the roof of the net from a Sion Jones cross, and it soon became 2-0 as Lee Jones found the net directly from a corner.

Bont looked comfortable, but that soon changed when Sam Mason capitalised on a loose pass and fired into the corner of the net to halve the deficit.

The hosts soon restored their two-goal advantage, however, when Lee Jones got his second goal, after the keeper made a brilliant save from his header from a Llion Jones cross, but he converted the rebound from close range.

Then, just before half-time, Fergus Morris made room for himself to fire in from the edge of the box to make it 4-1.

As the second half started, the pitch was soon covered in a blizzard of snow, and the wind continued to blow, but the home side created chance after chance.

In what was a bizarre half of football, played in very difficult conditions, Bont were unable to add to their tally, and both sides were glad to hear the final whistle on a cold and snowy afternoon.

Talybont meanwhile registered a comfortable 3-0 win in the end against a weakened Aberystwyth University Reserves, to consolidate fourth position.

Osian Thomas scored twice and Luke Davies also netted for the home team.

In the Second Division Trophy, Llanon won 5-4 against an Aberdyfi side that started with just seven players, before the late arrival of the rest of their team.

Trailing 4-2 at half-time, but back to full strength, Dyfi had a strong wind in their favour in the second half, but they ended with only nine players, due to a second yellow card for Paul Carpenter and a straight red for Rhett Melia.

Luke Fox, with a brace, and Dan Smart and Richard Winchurch scored for Dyfi, but two goals from Jack Williams and singles by Simon Lovatt, Jamie Fitzgerald, Liam Craine won it for Llanon.

Penparcau meanwhile returned to action with a 5-1 win at Llanilar Reserves, with their goals coming from Gaz Lewis, from the penalty spot, Chris Wylde, Lee Morgan, Craig Gore and an own goal from a Chris Wylde corner.
