BONT kept up their 100 per cent league record in the Cambrian Tyres Aberystwyth and District Division One as they came back from 2-0 down to register a 3-2 win at Padarn United.

The visitors started well, with much of the first half play being in the home side’s half, although Padarn had always looked dangerous on the break.

When a Bont corner was headed clear, Padarn broke quickly, catching the visitors out, and Paul Griffiths found himself free in the box to loop the ball over keeper Trevor Jenkins.

The hosts doubled their advantage when, after good work by Robbie Southgate down the right, a scramble in the box saw Richard Williams score, to make it 2-0 at the interval and looking in control of the game.

The visitors started the second half in the same way as they had the first, although this time they capitalised.

Five minutes in, a quick Ben Lewis free kick found centre back Sion Jones to head home from a tight angle, and 10 minutes later Lewis himself levelled matters when he cut inside on the edge of the box and slotted home into the far corner of the net.

Padarn still looked dangerous on the break, but the visitors kept pushing for a winner, and it arrived 10 minutes from time as substitute David Beck hit a cross that caught the keeper out and nestled in the far corner from a tight angle, to send Bont two points clear at the top of the table.

Padarn Reserves made it through to the second round of the Cambrian Tyres District League Cup in a dramatic penalty shoot-out, after drawing 3-3 after extra time at Llanon.

Llanon had scored through Ashley Phillips, Tom Williams and Liam Craine, only to be denied by a late extra time penalty by Graham Thomas.

In a keenly-fought encounter, a neat move had seen Carl Walley open the scoring for the visitors, but Llanon quickly equalised before half-time.

A well-placed free kick from Nathan Jackson restored Padarn’s lead, but Llanon again equalised - and both sides had chances to win the game.

In extra-time, Llanon went 3-2 up, but with five minutes to go, Cameron James was fouled in the box, and Graham Thomas slotted home the spot kick, to force a penalty shoot-out.

Goalkeeper Nigel Bowden saved twice for Padarn, and Cameron James slotted the winning penalty, to see Padarn Reserves through to round two.

Holders Talybont also progressed to the next round with a 4-3 extra time win against a spirited Borth Reserves.

After being two goals down at the interval, Talybont hit back with goals by Christian Jones, Steven Bailey and Jamie Morgan to force extra time - and the crucial winner was scored by Christian Jones in the first period.

Tom O’Conner, Sam Mason, Paul Vaughan had scored Borth’s goals.

Aberdyfi made progress with a 5-1 win over Penrhyncoch Reserves, with Tomos Jones and Liam Fox both scoring twice, and Nicky Williams once, whilst David Jones netted the reply.

Jamie Stuart meanwhile scored a hat-trick as Aberystwyth University Reserves marched on with a 3-0 win away at Tywyn/Bryncrug Reserves.
