BONT bounced back from their defeat at home to Cardigan Town in the Cwpan Coffa Dai ‘Dynamo’ Davies as they registered a solid 3-0 away win at Llanilar, to move three points clear at the top of the Cambrian Tyres Aberystwyth District League division one.
Two goals from David Beck and a great strike by Ben Lewis ensured that Bont maintained their unbeaten league record, to move clear of Bow Street Reserves, with a game in hand.
On a difficult pitch, both sides created a few half chances in the opening 25 minutes, but it was David Beck who finally broke the deadlock when he pounced on a defensive mistake to calmly slot home from 18 yards out.
The second half started with the home side pushing for the equaliser, and keeper Trevor Jenkins pulled off a brilliant save to keep Bont ahead.
Dion Davies hit the crossbar at the other end, and Bont crucially got their second goal when Charlie Parr played a pin-point ball in to Ben Lewis, who hit a unstoppable volley from the edge of the box in to the home net.
Bont’s killer third goal came with a slice of luck, as Beck again pressed the defence into a mistake, and his deflected shot looped over the stranded keeper to secure the three points.
The home side pressed late on, forcing a succession of corners, but the visitors held firm for the clean sheet.
Talybont have booked their place in the semi-finals of the Cambrian Tyres District League Cup after they notched a solid 3-0 win at division two side Padarn United Reserves.
Visiting keeper Ashley Wright kept his team in the tie with some fine saves early on, but Talybont held firm and they secured progress into the last four through first half goals by Anthony Vasquez and Jamie Morgan.
After the dismissal of a home player, Talybont bossed the second half and talented 16 year-old Sonnie Paluch sealed their win when he netted their third goal, on his debut for the club.
Penparcau also marched on into the semi-finals with a 2-1 away win over Aberystwyth University Reserves.
Ryan Williams put them ahead with a header from corner, but the Aber students equalised courtesy of an own goal deflection from Ryan Williams.
Dylan Bailey hit the cross bar with penalty at 1-1, but Jake Bush netted the winner to send Arky through.
Tywyn/Bryncrug Reserves took the derby spoils in their Second Division Trophy match at Aberdyfi, as a brace from Ben Holt and a John Horton goal earned them an entertaining 3-2 win.
Will Kendall and Rich Winchurch got onto the scoresheet for Aberdyfi, to keep the home side in touch.
Emrys Morgan Cup
• TREGARON Turfs marched into the quarter-finals of the Emrys Morgan Cup as they registered a 6-2 win at Costcutter League side Cilgerran.
The Turfs, who were looking to reach the last eight of the prestigious cup for the second year running, started the game well with Llyr Davies breaking the deadlock on five minutes with a fine finish.
Davies, who has been in fine form of late, doubled his tally on 15 minutes, and secured his first half hat-trick on 25 minutes with an exquisite finish into the top right corner of the net.
The young striker, who has scored 17 goals so far this season, and six in this competition was a constant threat to the Cilgerran defence with his pace and directness.
Cilgerran played some good football, and were always a threat in the box from set pieces but could not get on the scoresheet despite a good header from a corner going just over the cross bar.
The Turfs secured a 4-0 half time lead with Gareth Davies heading home a Llion Thomas corner.
The Turfs – the only representative left in the Cup from the Cambrian Tyres league - looked to put the game to bed early in the Second half, and took their lead to 5-0 when a wicked corner from Llion Thomas came off the Cilgerran defence and into the back of the net.
Carwyn Earey made it 6-0 on 70 minutes, with a spectacular overhead kick from inside the box.
Again, Cilgerran played some good football in the second half, and created a few chances - including a one on one chance that was saved by the Turfs keeper.
Cilgerran scored two consolation goals late on in the second half, the first a shot from outside the box which hit the bottom left corner of the net, and the second a lovely finish dinked over the Turfs’ keeper from close range.
