BONT claimed the Cambrian Tyres Aberystwyth and District League division one title in style as they breezed to an emphatic 7-0 victory over Aberdyfi last weekend.
It completed the double for Bont, who had already won the Newman Memorial Trophy, but were eager to bounce back from their midweek defeat to Talybont in the Cambrian Tyres League Cup Final.
Needing a win to overhaul Bow Street Reserves at the top of the table, they attacked from the start against Aberdyfi.
Defender Gwynfryn Hughes opened the scoring on 10 minutes, and top scorer Dewi Sion Evans soon doubled the lead.
It wasn’t until just before the interval, however, that the home side could feel comfortable as Evans slotted his second goal of the game, and 26th of the season.
Dion Davies grabbed an early second half goal, and with chances flowing, Andrew Carree, Owen Evans and a second for Gwynfryn Hughes sealed their win
Managers Warren Sedgewick and Terry Davies were proud of the team, who had led the title race for much of the season after stepping down from the Spar Mid Wales League division two last season.
“A lot of the thanks to go to the players for the effort they put in, along with the back-room staff, without whom the club wouldn’t still be running,” said Davies.
“Congratulations are also in order for Bow Street Reserves, who pushed us to the wire in the league, and to Talybont for their victory in the League Cup Final.”
It was also a fitting end to the superb playing career of Aberystwyth Town legend Glyndwr Hughes, who revealed that he will be hanging up his boots after helping his local club win the District League title for the first time in seven years.
