BORTH United are all set to step up into the Spar Mid Wales League division one after they accepted an invitation to complete its membership at the League AGM on Monday night.
The Crows finished last season third in the division two standings, on goal difference to runners-up Churchstoke, with Kerry crowned as champions.
The Spar Mid Wales division one, however, had only 15 clubs last season, opening the door for Borth to also step up.
“We’ve been given the opportunity to move up into division one of the Mid Wales League, and after a meeting the club has decided to grasp the chance of higher level football, especially after only losing out on promotion due to goal difference last year,” said a statement.
“We appreciate the opportunity and can’t wait for the challenge.”
Borth’s Ryan Davies was named as Spar Mid Wales League Division Two Player of the Year, and Liam Lewis was Top Scorer in Division Two with 26 goals.
The Division One Player of the Season was Karl Seliaerts of Berriew and the Top Scorer was Richard Davies, also of Berriew.
The Managers of the Season were Gareth Hughes and Jason Samuel of champions Rhayader Town in Division One, and Joe Andrew of champions Kerry in Division Two.
Meanwhile Rhayader Town have been promoted into the Cymru Alliance, with Llanfair dropping back down.
League Secretary Phil Woosnam confirmed that Newcastle Emlyn had with drawn its decision to join the Spar division two.
“Obviously, the club are not in a good geographical location and some journeys would have taken almost three hours to complete in one direction, thus causing the club to make a decision that it was not in their best interests or the League’s for them to join for the foreseeable future,” said Woosnam.“We wish Newcastle Emlyn all the best, and thank them for their interest.”
A letter received by the League also confirmed that Four Crosses had elected to be relegated from the Spar division two into the Montgomeryshire Amateur League, having finished in a relegation place.
“Having finished close to the bottom of division two over the past few seasons, our squad of players are not strong enough to compete as we would like,” the letter stated.
“On top of this, the travelling to away games is an ever increasing problem, with several of the squad working on Saturday mornings.”
The Spar Mid Wales League’s composition for next season will not be confirmed until next week.
Brecon Northcote and Talgarth Town have both applied for membership of Spar Mid Wales League Two, along with J T Hughes Montgomeryshire League Mitsubishi Division Two side Trewern.
Woosnam added: “Hay St Marys are dropping out of the first division, but will hopefully play in the second division as their former reserve team won the Mid Wales League (South) last season.
“With Hay dropping down and Montgomery Town seeking relegation, this leaves a spare place in the first division, which will be able to fill.
“Promotion into the league, including that of Talgarth Town and Trewern, will not be confirmed until next week’s full FAW council meeting.”
