BORTH United are through to the first round proper of the JD Welsh Cup after they hit back to beat local rivals Bow Street 2-1 at Cae Piod, with second half goals from Ryan Davies and Justin Quinn.

Bow Street had taken the lead after just two minutes when Tom Williams’ glancing header from a corner kick beat visiting keeper Ben Willis - and they had chances to have gone further ahead.

Williams was unlucky to see a low shot miss the post by inches, and in the second half Steffan Richards’ cross grazed the bar, and Owen Roberts-Young’s superb shot was turned away for a corner kick.

At the other end Ryan Davies’ rasping low shot was kept out by home keeper Alex Pennock, but as the game reached the final 10 minutes Borth equalised.

Dion Ellis-Clark weaved his way forward from his own half and provided a neat through ball for Ryan Davies to slot home with a low shot beyond Pennock.

Borth sensed an unlikely victory, and when a long kick from Ben Willis wasn’t dealt with by the home defence, Justin Quinn seized on the loose ball and rounded the keeper for the winning goal.

Aberaeron meanwhile bowed out of the competition with a 5-2 defeat at Llanfair United, despite a spirited comeback.

Llanfair had taken an early lead when Josh Astley pounced on a loose ball to score, and Tom Gregory made it 2-0 from close in after the Aberaeron defence had failed to clear a Paul Griffiths free kick.

The hosts made it 3-0 on 25 minutes when Karl Seliaerts converted a penalty, awarded for handball, but Aberaeron refused to surrender and came back with a brilliant long range effort by Steff Gittins.

In added time at the end of the first half, a Gittins free kick then found its way into the net, with Elwyn Edwards challenging for the header, to reduce the deficit to 3-2.

In the second half, however, a brilliant free kick by Astley made it 4-2 on 68 minutes, and Paul Griffiths sealed the win on 75 minutes with his well-taken effort.

Ten-man Llanidloes Town meanwhile beat Welshpool Town in a penalty shoot-out at Maesydre, after finishing 2-2 in normal time, and 3-3 after extra time.

Playing 90 minutes with 10 men after Josh Hartrick’s controversial dismissal for two cautions, Llani dug deep with Peter Rees, sub Gregg Brown and Llion Jenkins on target, while Ian Probert, with a penalty, and Will Thomas, with a brace, scored for Pool to take it to penalties.

Keeper Aaron Warrick saved from Thomas, before dispatching the winning spot kick himself to see the Daffs through.

Caersws breezed through to the next round as four goals from Phil Jones and a hat-trick from top scorer Mark Edmondson sealed an 8-0 thrashing of Tywyn/Bryncrug, with youngster Charlie Gordon also finding the net for the Bluebirds.

Goals from David Edwards and Darrell Johns saw Dolgellau through with a 2-1 win at rivals Machynlleth, with Paul Jones replying, whilst two goals by Joey Price capped a solid 4-0 win for Radnor Valley over Carno, with Elliot Williams and Matt Croose also finding the net.

Berriew recovered from being two goals down to beat Builth Wells 5-2 in extra time, with goals from Charlie Humphreys, Harry Watkins and Tomos Williams, who completed a hat-trick. Josh Price had scored twice for the Wellmen.

Second half goals from Joel Evans and Joe Cooper earned Brecon Corries a 2-0 win over Abermule, whilst goals from Ashley Jones, Gareth Jones and Ryan Sims, with a brace, saw Llandrindod Wells beat Four Crosses 4-2, with Jamie Evans and a Simon Griffiths replying.
