BORTH United ended an action-packed week on a positive note as two goals from Jac Morris earned them a battling win over Presteigne in their Spar Mid Wales League division two match last weekend.

On a bright, sunny afternoon the match was switched to Blaendolau Fields, and visitors Presteigne were clearly keen to maintain their impressive form of late.

It was Borth, however, who opened the scoring when the lively Jac Morris rounded the Presteigne keeper to score on the half hour for a lead they held to half time.

To their credit, Presteigne gave their hosts enough problems with some tigerish tackling, as they battled back strongly.

At the other end Ryan Davies’ low shot hit the base of the post, and with 10 minutes remaining they secured their win. Substitute Justin Quinn floated a superb ball to the feet of man of the match Jac Morris, to steer the ball passed the keeper.

Although the visitors pressed in the closing minutes of the match, Borth held on to secure three hard-earned points. Borth entertain leaders Berriew on Saturday, before facing local rivals Aberystwyth University on Monday.

• Bont had been the visitors to Uppingham Field three days earlier, but with the playing surface just about surviving a heavy downpour just before the start, Borth registered a 2-1 home success.

The Crows made the perfect start when, after five minutes, a defensive mistake offered Jamie Evans the chance to score.

Bont responded positively, and Owain Schiavone was unlucky not to equalise after rounding keeper Ben Willis, but his shot was cleared away by Sam Middleton.

Bont created more chances as half time neared, but Borth held on to their lead.

Within five minutes of the second half, however, Jamie Evans doubled Borth’s lead, and this was soon followed by a swift finish from Jac Morris for a 3-0 lead.

Veteran Glyndwr Hughes pushed forward and went close to scoring for Bont with some darting runs into the Borth defence, but then midway through the half Ryan Davies scored Borth’s fourth goal.

Bont persevered and they were rewarded as Sam Middleton handled the ball on the goal line, and was sent off, with the penalty converted by Dewi Sion Evans.

• After three postponements Borth had to forfeit home advantage to Berriew in the ER Jenkins Division Two Cup quarter-finals, and the Crows were beaten 3-0 under the floodlights last Monday evening.

Berriew opened their account with a Karl Seliaerts volley, but the match was overshadowed by an ankle injury to Borth’s Liam Berner, who required lengthy treatment before being stretchered off the field.

On the resumption, Berriew doubled their lead through Will Gittins, and as full time approached Steff Rogers made it 3-0.
