BORTH United were made to battle hard for their 1-0 win in the MMP Mid Wales League division two at basement outfit Knighton Town, who proved they are capable of providing stern opposition.

The difficult playing conditions restricted both teams’ efforts, but generally Borth had the better chances to make the breakthrough as the match progressed.

The visitors were guilty of some poor finishing, however, until the deadlock was finally broken on 15 minutes when a Bryn McGilligan corner kick was met by Ryan Davies to volley home at the far post, and earn Borth a hard earned win.

Machynlleth are level on points with leaders Penparcau, having played a game more, after they made it seven league wins in a row with a 2-0 win over Forden.

Callum Page opened the scoring early on to give the hosts a slender lead at the interval, and a crucial second half goal from Jac Petrie made sure of the points in tough playing conditions at Cae Glas.

Third-placed Newbridge got back to winning ways with a solid 6-0 win over Aberystwyth University, after a strong first half performance had seen them go five goals clear at the half-time interval.

Sion Herman and Aeron Powell both finished with doubles, with Jake Bufton and Lyndon Jones also getting onto the scoresheet for the dominant home team.

Owain Williams scored twice as Dolgellau carried on their fine form from December with a 3-0 away win at Abermule, with David Edwards also scoring.

A hat-trick by Tom Ellis, including two penalties, sealed a 6-3 win for Waterloo Rovers over Presteigne, with a Luke Evans brace and Andrew Gwilt sealing the win, whilst Churchstoke’s scheduled match against Dyffryn Banw was postponed due to the wet weather conditions.
