RYAN Edwards scored twice as Borth United continued winning ways with a 5-3 Welsh Cup win over Montgomeryshire Amateur League side Trewern United at their adopted home of Park Avenue.

With Uppingham Field being waterlogged after heavy overnight rain, the match was switched to Aberystwyth, and within five minutes a mix up in the Trewern defence allowed Ryan Edwards to nip in and toe poke the ball passed the keeper.

A second goal soon followed when Clive Morgan’s deft through ball fell to Ryan Edwards, whose low shot was saved by the visiting keeper, but the loose ball was netted by Jamie Walker at the far post.

Trewern responded well and a glancing header from Shaun Roberts reduced the deficit, and then minutes later Roberts netted his second goal with a neat lob over keeper Justin Davies to level the scores.

Only the upright came to Borth’s rescue soon afterwards as a scorching drive from Jake Mann rebounded to safety, and the scoreline remained at 2-2 at the interval.

The match continued at a fast pace as the second half progressed, with chances at both ends, but the Crows reclaimed the lead when Lee Crumpler powered home a header from Jay Walker’s free kick.

Borth took firm control, with Ryan Edwards’ cross come shot from the left wing beating the goalkeeper at his near post.

A fifth goal followed, and it owed much to the close range passing of Ryan Edwards and Lee Jones, with Josh Evans sliding the ball home passed the keeper.

In the final minutes Trewern’s Shaun Roberts completed a well-taken hat-trick, but Borth marched on as worthy winners.

Elsewhere, Machynlleth bowed out with a 5-0 defeat to Llandrindod, as Shaun Nicholls, Robert Nicholls, a Stuart Williams brace, and an own goal sealed victory.

Welshpool hit back to win 3-2 at Churchstoke in extra time, with Will Thomas, Ryan Evans and Ricky Litchfield scoring, after Andrew Green and Joe Haycock had put the home side 2-0 ahead, whilst a Charlie Humphreys goal earned Abermule a 1-0 win over Tywyn/Bryncrug.

Nathan Prodger scored four as Llansantffraid beat Montgomery 6-0, with Wayne Austin and Shane Kriek also scoring, whilst a Luke Mumford penalty and Mark Hughes earned Kerry a 2-1 win over Hay St Marys, with Matty Tong replying.
