BORTH United’s promotion hopes were shattered in the Spar Mid Wales League division two as their narrow 1-0 defeat to Dyffryn Banw at Park Avenue meant that they were pipped at the post to second place by rivals Churchstoke.

Alwyn Jones weaved his way into the Borth penalty area and squeezed the ball passed keeper Sean Gates for the only goal of the game on 15 minutes.

The result confirmed Kerry as division two champions, whilst Churchstoke crept above Borth on goal difference at the weekend as goals from Jamie Beaton, Joe Haycock and Neil Yapp earned them a 3-0 victory over Four Crosses.

Kerry had secured their promotion in midweek when goals from Luke Mumford and Daryl McWhatt sealed a 2-2 draw with Churchstoke.

Joe Haycock and Andrew Green netted for the visitors, but the draw meant that Kerry moved three points clear, with superior goal difference.

Elsewhere in division two, Penybont beat Dolgellau 3-2, with goals from Emrys Thomas, Jack Murphy and Jake Bufton, whilst Dion Jones and Joe Ephraim replied for the home team.
