BOW STREET’s Cae Piod faithful experienced an extraordinary afternoon as the home team registered their biggest triumph in 10 seasons of competing in the Spar Mid Wales League with a 14-0 demolition of Montgomery.

The half-time scoreline of 2-0 gave no indication of the goal deluge that would follow, with the home side being made to battle in the opening half.

The Magpies soaked up the threats of the visitors, with the new-look defensive partnership of Garmon Nutting and Ian Evans looking assured.

Despite having a lot of possession, it took Street until the 25th minute for Andrew Gittins to break the deadlock with a point blank header, and Dylan James then added a second goal 15 minutes later with a superb free kick.

An injury to Mathew Evans meant he was replaced by Steffan Richards, but the game was over as a contest within five minutes of the second half.

Substitute Richards took no time in getting onto the scoresheet, and 16 year-old Tom Evans rounded the keeper to finish off an excellent move.

Following that, goals came at regular intervals, with Richards going on to score four goals in the second half.

Tom Williams and Andrew Gittins also went on to score hat-tricks, whilst Llion Jenkins added a brace and Dylan James and Tom Evans also netted.

“It was remarkable how the second half turned out,” said Bow Street chairman, Wyn Lewis after the game.

“You have to have great sympathy with Montgomery, and we wish them all the best for the rest of the season.

“But congratulations go to our lads on this record-breaking achievement.”

Llanidloes Town recorded their first league win of the year when overcoming lowly Tywyn Bryncrug 2-1 at Victoria Avenue, a side they had hammered 6-1 away earlier in the season.

In the last two months, the Daffs had played just once in the league, that being a 4-2 loss to title chasing Berriew.

Tywyn proved a tougher proposition this time, but a late own goal from a Josh Evans free kick secured a double for the Daffs after ex-Llani player Aston Heath had cancelled out an early opener from George Clarke.

“They battled hard, and frustrated us, but we deserved the win,” said Daffs boss Hugh Clarke, whose side host third placed Carno on Saturday.

“The goal they scored in the second half gave them a lift, but we stuck at it and got there in the end. Having not played much in the league, it was good to get three points. We’ve only lost a couple of games since October.”

Carno had to settle for a 1-1 draw with a Knighton side that finished the match with eight men, with two players being sent off.

Veteran Colin Reynolds headed an equaliser late on for the Greens, after Connor Bird had put Knighton ahead with a penalty.

Machynlleth won for the first time in the league since November, courtesy of a 2-0 win over Welshpool Town, with goals scored by Drew Page and Sion Williams, from the penalty spot.

Aberaeron had to settle for a share of the spoils in a 1-1 draw with Llanrhaeadr, with Dan James scoring for the Seasiders, before Iain Edmunds levelled for the visitors in the second half.

Rhayader Town returned to winning ways at the top of the table with a 3-1 derby win over Llandrindod Wells, with all goals coming in the first half.

Christian Jones opened the scoring, Ashley Jones made it 2-0 with a 20 yard strike, and Mark Davies added a third, before the Wellmen replied.

Title rivals Berriew lost ground in a 1-1 draw with Radnor Valley with Rhys Stephens’ netting for the visitors and Callum Matthews for Radnor.
