BOW Street Reserves progressed to the second round of the Cambrian Tyres Aberystwyth District League Cup with what was eventually a tight 3-2 victory against Padarn United.
Nicky Smith fired a late winner to set up a tie at Dolgellau Reserves, after a battling Padarn had hit back from a two-goal deficit to level the scores.
The Magpies had dominated a goalless first half, but could not take advantage of the chances they created.
That changed in the second half as Bow Street stormed into a two-goal lead, courtesy of excellent finishes by Iolo ap Dafydd and Justin Quinn.
This spurred on the visitors, however, and they hit back through goals from Paul James and Dan Parry.
Both sides created further chances, but seven minutes from the end, Nicky Smith put the home side ahead when he scored from a free kick.
The home side were awarded a penalty in stoppage time, but Smith’s strike was well saved by the keeper.
Dolgellau Reserves had booked their place in the second round with a 2-0 away win at Machynlleth Reserves, courtesy of winning goals from Charlie Owen and George Townshend.
Tregaron Turfs are also through to the next round after goals from Ifan Jones and Carwyn Earey sealed a 2-0 derby win away at local rivals Bont.
In league action, Talybont registered their third win in division one with a big 8-1 triumph at Borth Reserves.
Christian Jones impressed on his debut for the club by scoring four goals, whilst Steven Bailey netted twice, and Chris Wylde and Anthony Vasquez also netted. Joe Green got the reply.
Ryan Hopkins scored a hat-trick as Llanilar also had an emphatic win, with a 7-0 success at Penrhyncoch Reserves. Rhys Morgan, Siôn Evans, Jack Lawton and Guto Roberts also scored.
• Penparcau hosted their first home game in two years against a young and well organised Llanilar Reserves, and came through for a 3-2 win in the Cambrian Tyres division two.
With the rain having stopped, but with a strong wind to play into, Penparcau played the short passing game and controlled the midfield through their more experienced older players.
Llanilar’s youngsters looked sharp, however, chasing down every ball, and their perseverance paid off when a defensive error lead to them opening scoring after half an hour.
Penparcau, however, battled back and equalised with a well placed penalty by Jason Rees before half-time.
The hosts then pushed on in the second half, using the wind to their advantage, and a Jason Rees set-piece from 30 yards gave them a 2-1 lead.
Llanilar hit back to level matters with a solo run from the left and good strike into the bottom corner, but with 10 minutes left Penparcau changed formation, moving the experienced Warren Sedgwick from defence into centre forward, and within two minutes he scored to seal their first win.
Llanon won 4-1 at Padarn Reserves, with goals by Sion Davies, Ross Diamond, Tom Williams and an own goal, with Graham Thomas replying with a penalty, whilst Tywyn Reserves won 4-2 away at Aberdyfi.
