BOW STREET climbed up to third position in the Spar Mid Wales League division one table with an impressive 3-0 win over fancied Hay St Marys at Cae Piod.

Despite losing the influential Tom Williams after a quarter of an hour, the home side carved out numerous opportunities before the break, without finding the net.

After half-time, they eventually made their superiority count when Dylan James rose at the far post to head the ball home.

Dean Evans then scored his first goal since re-joining the Magpies with a superb finish, and it was Evans who scored their decisive third, when his shot came off the post and hit Hay defender Jordan Baker before trickling over the goal line.

The visitors felt they should have been awarded a penalty when sub Harry Ratcliffe was brought down by keeper Ben Willis, but the referee waved play on.

Bow Street boss Barry Williams was delighted with the victory, and said he was looking forward to Saturday’s away game against league leaders Rhayader Town.

“I’m delighted with the performance, and although we created a lot of chances, and scored three, the performance of the back four was outstanding, not giving Hay any opportunities,” he commented.

“We are all looking forward to the challenge of playing in Rhayader this week.

“It was a tight game at Cae Piod in early September, when it ended 1-1, so it should be another good occasion on Saturday.”

Elsewhere in division one, Aberaeron were narrowly beaten 2-1 at home to Berriew, where goals from Karl Seliaerts, from the penalty spot, and an own goal earned the visitors the points, with James Hemmings scoring for the home team.

Lee Harley netted a 89th minute winner as league leaders Rhayader Town beat Montgomery Town 2-1 to maintain their unbeaten record. Richard Powell had opened their account, but Jack Clare had netted an equaliser for Montgomery.

Two goals from Mark Jones and a Sam Williams effort earned Knighton Town a 3-1 away win against Welshpool, who replied through Neil Pryce’s late penalty.
