BOW STREET Reserves continued their pursuit of Cambrian Tyres Aberystwyth and District League leaders Bont with a solid 5-0 win over Tregaron Turfs.
Manager Rhodri Jones said he was delighted with his side’s performance as they moved within four points of leaders Bont, with five league games each left.
“It was an excellent display by the whole squad, and the most pleasing aspect was the contribution of all the youngsters,” he said.
“This must be one of the youngest squads to represent Bow Street Reserves.”
The hosts totally dominated the first half, with Osian Burrell opening the scoring, before Justin Quinn and Nicky Smith, from the penalty spot, extended the lead to make it 3-0 at the interval.
The Turfs had their fair share of possession in the second half, but without really threatening the Magpies’ keeper Rhys Evans.
A brilliant individual goal by midfielder Guto Havard, however, lit up the second half, before the scoring was completed with a superb header from Gethin ap Dafydd, after a great run and cross by Osian Burrell.
On Saturday, Bow Street Reserves face Talybont at Cae Piod in the second round of the Len and Julia Newman Trophy after Taly beat Borth Reserves by 5-0.
Talybont missed several chances early on, but goals from Connor Murphy, Jac Williams, Jamie Morgan, Chris Wylde and Bari Southgate sealed the win.
Aberystwyth University Reserves won their second round match 7-4 in extra-time against Padarn United.
George Taylor scored twice, and Shaun Roberts, Gytis Pivnickas, Charlie Misell, Nathan Ash and Anand Gill also hit the net.
Padarn had hit back from being two goals down to lead 4-2 with 20 minutes to go, with goals by Paul James, Elgan Wyn and Jason Davies, with a brace.
The students, however, scored twice late on in the second half to take the game to extra time, and during that period scored three more goals without reply.
Bont meanwhile breezed through to the next round with an emphatic 9-1 win over Machynlleth Reserves.
Lee Jones, Fergus Morris and Ifan Jones Evans all scored twice, with Ben Lewis, Dion Davies and Andrew Gilbert also netting.
Aberystwyth University Thirds maintained their title charge in the Cambrian Tyres division two with a 6-2 win against Llanon.
The result never looked in doubt with the Uni dominating all aspects of the game. The students’ goals came courtesy of Levi Challoner, with a brace, Jamie Stuart, Simon Fischer, Garem Jones and Dylan Price.
