BOW STREET completed a quick-fire double over Knighton Town as they followed up their excellent Welsh Cup win with an ultimately comfortable 3-1 win over the same opponents at Cae Piod in the Spar Mid Wales League Division One.

Goals from Mathew Evans, Llion Jenkins and Dean Evans sealed their fourth league win of the season so far, to leave manager Barry Williams in upbeat mood.

“We are very pleased to have come through these back-to-back games against Knighton with two wins,” said the Magpies’ manager. “They have offered a very physical challenge to us, but today was all about the three points, and we are all delighted with the result.”

Mathew Evans opened the scoring after 10 minutes, but Knighton reacted well and caused them problems for the rest of the opening half.

After the break the home side became more dominant, and within 10 minutes they doubled the score when the Knighton goalkeeper allowed a Llion Jenkins shot under his body into the net.

Street had chances to increase their lead, with Mathew Penberthy especially unlucky as his bullet header rebounded off the crossbar.

With five minutes to go, a mix-up in the home defence saw Adam Farmer pull a goal back, but a minute later an intelligent run and pass by Steff Richards enabled an excellent finish from Dean Evans to seal the points.ABERAERON 0 LLANIDLOES TOWN 1

LLANIDLOES Town boss Hugh Clarke praised his side’s battling qualities after keeping hold of pole position in the Spar Mid Wales League division one with a 1-0 win away at Aberaeron.

A crucial strike from Richie Evans in the second half proved enough to secure the victory that kept the Daffs two points clear at the top.

“It was a good, battling performance in difficult conditions by us,” said Clarke.

“We stuck in there, we got our heads and our feet in, and we showed our winning mentality, even with four or five players out of the side.

“Aberaeron are not a bad team at all. They are strong and physical, and are far better than their league position suggests. A lot of teams are going to struggle there.

“But we more than matched that, and the win keeps us up there. It’s a very big difference to this time last year when we were fourth or fifth form bottom.”

A number of Llanidloes players were sidelined, including defender Drew Reynolds through suspension - and his absence saw his father Colin Reynolds return to action at the age of 48 with a steely performance at the heart of defence.

Aberaeron started well with the wind at their backs, and hit the woodwork, but the Daffs steadied the ship and came into the game.

They had the better of the second half, with Richie Evans grabbing the only goal with a fine solo effort, when weaving his way into the box, before firing home.LLANRHAEADR 6 BORTH UNITED 0

BORTH UNITED were overwhelmed as they crashed to a 6-0 defeat to in-form Llanrhaeadr on a bright afternoon at Recreation Field.

A day after ex-England captain David Beckham had made a surprise visit to the same ground by helicopter, Borth faced a tough test.

Marc Griffiths opened the scoring with a cool finish after five minutes, and Khyam Wytton doubled the lead on the half hour with a rasping shot into the top corner.

Five minutes later, Borth keeper James Evans brought down a player who was harshly deemed to be inside the penalty area, resulting in a red card for the keeper.

Daniel Graham duly scored from the spot, passed stand-in Jac Wyn Williams.

As the hosts pressed forward, Khyam Wytton netted his second goal, and as half time approached Borth scored an own goal to give them a 5-0 interval lead.

With a mountain to climb as the second half got underway, 10-man Borth to their credit produced a great effort, but on the whole never really tested the keeper.

To make matters worse, Borth were even reduced to nine men for a short while after Daniel Hopton had suffered a bad nose injury, and had to be replaced.

Midway through the half, Marc Griffiths scored his second goal with a class finish, yet Llanrhaeadr were guilty of squandering some good half chances as the match reached a conclusion.AROUND THE GROUNDS
