BOW STREET eased into the third round of the FAW Trophy with an emphatic 6-1 win over MMP Mid Wales League division two outfit Rhayader at Cae Piod.
The Magpies, who are currently well-placed in sixth position in the division one table, were 2-1 up at the interval, and took full control with four second half goals to end Rhayader’s challenge.
The visitors, who had beaten struggling Knighton Town 7-1 in midweek, had opened the scoring when Jordan Mcfadden capitalised on a goalkeeping error. The hosts responded positively, however, as Josh Crowl, from the penalty spot, and Steffan Richards turned the tables to put the Magpies 2-1 up.
Joseff Williams took little time in extending their lead after the break, and when Garmon Nutting made it 4-1 there was no way back for the visiting team.
With Bow Street well on top, a Steffan Richards goal and a second Josh Crowl penalty sealed a comfortable win, in a much-improved performance by Street.
Llanidloes Town meanwhile bowed out of the competition with a 2-1 extra-time defeat to local rivals Carno at Ty Brith. After a goalless first half in which Llani were left to rue a few early missed chances, they opened the scoring when Adam Worton spotted the keeper off his line and scored from inside his own half.
Carno fought back and Joseph Bell levelled matters for the hosts, and then Andy Evans netted what proved to be the winner in the first period of extra-time.
Tywyn/Bryncrug crashed out of the Trophy with a 9-2 defeat at Four Crosses, with Oliver Jones leading the way with four goals. Ben Simms fired a hat-trick, along with goals from Olly Powell and Charlie Davies, who also got sent off. Sion Ellis and Aled Jones netted for Tywyn, who travelled with a bare 11 players, and just one recognised defender.
Machynlleth also exited the competition with a narrow 2-1 home defeat to Radnor Valley on Friday evening, after opening the scoring through Jac Petrie. The visitors got back on level terms through an own goal, and Callum Matthews headed their second half winner.
Penparcau maintained their momentum with a 2-0 win over Montgomery Town, as goals from Michael Gornall and Lee Jones capped a well-deserved win.
Joe Haycock scored twice as Berriew eased into the third round with a 5-0 away win at Churchstoke. Xavier Matisse, Charlie Humphreys and Niall Thomas also hit the net for the visitors.
Dolgellau were beaten 4-2 away at Penrhyndeudraeth, despite netting replies from Cai Johnson and Charlie Owen. Jack Jones had netted twice for the Maes-y-Parc hosts, including a penalty, along with Steve Jones and an own-goal.
Peter Rees scored five goals as Caersws hammered hosts Presteigne 12-0. Jamie Hyne also netted a hat-trick, Craig Harris scored twice, and Rhydian Davies and Elliot Jones completed the dozen goals.
Luke Thomas scored twice as Welshpool Town hammered derby rivals Waterloo Rovers 6-0. Will Thomas, Ricky Litchfield, Henry Watkins and James Clewlow completed their scoring.
MMP Mid Wales League Round-Up
BORTH United maintained their 100 per cent record in the MMP Mid Wales League division two as two goals from Ryan Davies set up an emphatic 6-1 win over visitors Abermule last weekend.
In sunny conditions at Uppingham Fields, both teams created good scoring chances, and the visitors were thankful to keeper Aaron Leary for making some superb saves to initially keep Borth at bay.
The Crows persevered and a Bryn McGilligan Oliver pin-point cross allowed Ryan Davies to score with a close range header to put Borth into an interval lead.
As the second half got under way, Olly Herchel’s cross from the right wing wasn’t properly cleared and Ryan Davies controlled the ball, before scoring with a low shot into the bottom corner of the net.
With Borth in the ascendancy, further goals from James Davies and Bryn McGilligan Oliver seemed enough to secure the three points - but credit to Abermule who battled on and, following a corner kick, Ashley Phillips scored with a far post low shot in the final minute of the match.
Forden United meanwhile added to the misery of struggling Knighton Town as they roared to an emphatic 10-0 home win, with Jake O’Donnell leading the way with five goals, along with doubles from Michael Henderson-Smith and Ross Harris, and a single from Ryan Jenkins.
Newbridge moved to the top of the table on goal difference from Penparcau after notching a 4-0 win over Dyffryn Banw, with goals by Jake Bufton, Kejan Froyzewski and Dave Thomas, with a brace.
Builth Wells took the points in a hard-fought 2-0 win at Kerry, who battled hard before finally falling to two late goals from Christian Jones and Rudi Griffiths.
Aberaeron’s division one match against Hay St Mary’s was postponed after the Saints announced that they had withdrawn from the league after seven games.
