Bow Street at last got back to winning ways in the MMP Mid Wales League division one with a well-deserved 2-0 victory over Llandrindod Wells.
Two goals from Tomos Williams capped a disciplined performance from the Magpies, who lifted themselves out of the bottom three in the league standings, with their third league win of the season.
“We knew it was a must-win game for us, and the whole team responded superbly,” said Street manager Barry Williams. “This will hopefully set up the boys nicely for the crucial next few weeks.”
The visitors were combative opponents and had much of the possession and pressure in a frantic first half, but it was the Magpies who took the lead on 30 minutes with a contender for Goal of the Season.
A phenomenal 35-yard volley from Tomos Williams found its way into the back of the net for a 1-0 lead at the interval, and buoyed by the goal, the Magpies played far better in the second period.
With increased attacking impetus, they threatened the Llandrindod goal numerous times, before the points were secured.
A sublime through ball from substitute Chris Jones played in Williams and he kept his composure to score his second goal of the afternoon to seal the victory.
Elsewhere in division one, there was plenty of drama on Mount Field as an injury time goal saw Llanfair snatch the points in a thrilling 3-2 win over Kerry.
The visitors had started well and deservedly took the lead on 15 minutes when Luke Mumford scored from a corner, but on 31 minutes Josh Astley equalised to make it all square at half-time.
In the second half, youngster Ryan McVeagh scored a great goal on 58 minutes to put Llanfair ahead, but Kerry looked to have earned a draw when they forced an own goal, following a goal line scramble with three minutes remaining.
There was still another twist in the tale, however, as in the 92nd minute, Karl Seliaerts headed the ball home at the far post to give Llanfair a last-gasp victory.
In the only other division one match played, Joey Price scored twice as Radnor Valley notched a convincing 6-0 home win over Llansantffraid, with Matt Croose, Ieuan Price, Lew Morris and Elliot Morris also getting on the scoresheet.
