CARNO dropped two vital points in their push for promotion within the Spar Mid Wales League division one as they were held to a battling 1-1 draw against a rejuvenated Bow Street at Cae Piod.
Looking to keep pace with frontrunners Penrhyncoch, Carno had travelled without midfielders Steve Jones, Ioan Humphreys and Danny Pierce, and we were forced into fielding a makeshift midfield.
Bow Street, looking to move away from basement danger in the division one standings, were on top for the majority of the first half, but they failed to test seriously test visiting keeper Chris Brown.
Carno, however, almost made them pay for their missed chances, when Andrew Evans beat three home defenders, before seeing his shot come back off the post.
After a disappointing first half, the high-flying visitors stated the second period with much more purpose and they forced a corner within minutes of the restart.Ollie Lewis swung the ball into the box and new signing Colin Reynolds poked home the opening goal on his debut.
The 47-year-old veteran, who notched over 500 Welsh Premier League appearances for Newtown, Caersws and Aberystwyth Town, had signed in midweek, having played for Carno at the back end of last season, and he added some much needed experience to our young squad.
Bow Street, however, refused to accept defeat and they fought back well to get back on level terms on the hour when Steve Harrison fired home from a set-piece.
In an open game, Carno had further chances to win the game as Ollie Lewis hit the bar and Rob Davies headed wide from eight yards out, but at the other end Brown made a fantastic one-on-one save to deny Street in an entertaining game.
Street manager Phil Evans could take plenty of heart from his side’s performance, and they will be looking to produce another committed performance when they travel to Llanidloes on Saturday, with both sides eager to climb the table.
Carno, meanwhile, will feel that they have to improve their game this weekend in the fifth round of the FAW Trophy, when they travel to face Trearddur Bay United, who are currently sixth in the Lock Stock Welsh Alliance division one.
