BOW Street comfortably won their first home game of the season in the Spar Mid Wales League division one as they registered a 5-0 triumph over Radnor Valley, to help erase the memory of last Tuesday’s defeat to local rivals Borth.
In blustery conditions, the hosts were 2-0 up at half-time, with Andrew Gittins opening the scoring, before then beng fouled in the area, resulting in Mark Gornall, on his debut, scoring the penalty.
In a dominant second half, Bow Street scored three further goals through Gittins again and Steffan Richards, who scored twice. Radnor were awarded a penalty in injury time, but Ben Willis saved well.
“I’m delighted that the boys hit back today after a below par performance against Borth,” said manager Barry Williams.
“It was a solid all-round performance, but special praise has to be given to the front three of Tom Evans, Andrew Gittins and Steff Richards for all their hard work.
“Their non-stop running and endeavour gave Radnor’s defence a torrid afternoon.
Keeper Aaron Warrick pulled off a late penalty save as Llanidloes Town made it three wins out of three to top division one with an excellent 2-1 win at Llanrhaeadr.
The Daffs were without four players, and had to come from behind against Llanrhaeadr after Dan Graham, who netted a hat-trick against Aberaeron on the opening day, gave his side an interval lead when heading in a Jack Brayne cross.
The hosts could have been further ahead, with Joe Vaughan missing a couple of chances, but the Daffs hit back on the hour when Gareth Owen headed home powerfully from an Ed Clarke corner.
They then took the lead five minutes from time when sub Joe Evans slid the ball into the net for a dramatic winner.
But although they finished strongly, the visitors survived a dramatic finish when keeper Warrick made a fine save to keep out a Graham penalty in the last minute.
“It was a good win as Llanrhaeadr are a good side, they’ve got a few new signings, and it’s a tough place to go,” said Daffs manager Hugh Clarke. “They could have scored a couple in the first half, but our defence stuck in together, and I thought we were very good in the second half.
“We made a couple of changes, and it’s good to see everyone fighting for places.
“Aaron again played well in goal. As well as the penalty, he made a couple of good saves, and when you’ve got a keeper in good form it breeds confidence. It was a good performance, and you can’t ask for any more than three wins from three.”
Aberaeron slipped to their second defeat as they went down 3-2 at Llanfair United, where goals by Andrew Hughes, Daniel Jones and Josh Astley secured the points, whilst Chris Wilkins and Nathan Warren were on the scoresheet for the visitors.
Scott Williams scored twice as Carno hit back twice to earn a hard fought 2-2 draw at Knighton Town, where Connor Bird had scored twice, the first being a penalty.Spar Mid Wales League Division TwoDOLGELLAU made it two wins from two in the Spar Mid Wales League division two as a brace from David Edwards and a Dennis Bates goal sealed a 3-1 win away against Presteigne. The hosts had their fair share of the possession, but Dolgellau held on and caught them on the break.Early on keeper Darren Andrews was called upon to save a rebound after the ball had come back off the post, but at the other end Edwards broke the deadlock when he cut in from left and went close with an strike from edge of box.Edwards then doubled the lead when he saw keeper Simon Hamer off his line and lifted the ball over him and into the net from his own half for a stunning goal.Presteigne pulled a goal back on 30 minutes when the ball fell to Jon Cawley after a scramble, following a set-piece, to fire it home.Dolgellau battled back and Dennis Bates restored the lead just before half time, cutting in from the by-line on the right to fire in left-footed from a tight angle. In the second half, Presteigne dominated territory, but were limited to shots from the edge of the box, but Dolgellau also broke out on a number of occasions.Dominic Thomas forced a couple of saves from their keeper, with one rebounding to Bates with the goal at his mercy, but he shot wide.Elsewhere in division two, Alex Simmonds scored once and provided assists for Kyle O’Shea and Ben Sharman as Talgarth beat Newbridge 3-0 away.Dyffryn Banw hit back to beat Penybont 4-1, with two goals by Tom Foulkes, and singles by Jamie Huxley and Gerallt Davies, after Daniel Paosila-Jones had headed the visitors ahead.
