BOW STREET consolidated their top five position in the Spar Mid Wales League division one as they shared the spoils in a 2-2 draw at home against third-placed Llanidloes on Wednesday night.

A sizeable crowd gathered at Cae Piod to witness a thriller, as the visiting Daffs fought back for a valuable draw in pursuit of their ultimate goal of promotion to the Cymru Alliance League.

“It was a game of two halves in many ways, and despite obviously being disappointed in not winning the game, I cannot fault the effort and commitment of the players,” said Bow Street manager Barry Williams.

The Magpies had looked on track for victory as first half goals from Ifan Burrell, with a terrific finish, and Tom Evans, with a fine individual effort after a lovely through ball by Mark Gornall, earned a 2-0 lead.

The second half started in similar vein, with the home side again looking as if they would score again. A 35 yard free kick from Gornall hit the bar, and a goal would then surely have clinched a home victory, but the Daffs hit back to secure a draw.

Greg Brown pulled a goal back for the Daffs with a delicate lob, and a goalkeeping error saw Peter Rees score a crucial equaliser to keep Llanidloes’ hopes of finishing as the runners-up alive.

"We could either finish second, or fourth or fifth, it’s that close, so we’ve just got to pick up as many points as we can and see where it takes us," said Llanidloes manager Hugh Clarke.

Relegation-bound Borth United produced a spirited display before they lost 3-2 to Berriew at Uppingham Fields on Wednesday night.

A last-gasp penalty by Marc Jones sealed the win, after Berriew had hit back twice, from a Josh Evans strike and an own goal.

Borth chairman Mike Wilcox and helpers performed miracles in getting the playing surface ready after heavy overnight and morning rain, but a sunny evening was a welcome sight for the sides.

Both sides had early chances to open the scoring and the hosts made the breakthrough on 15 minutes when Josh Evans scored with a low shot into the bottom corner.

It took Berriew 10 minutes to equalise when Steffan Rogers netted with a fine finish, and although the teams had good chances as the first half progressed, the 1-1 interval score was about right.

The second half was only minutes old as a Berriew player was unlucky to score an own goal, but a relatively young Berriew team were always a threat and Josh Morgan scored the equaliser with a deft finish passed home keeper Sean Gates.

The match was destined for a draw, but with five minutes to go Berriew were awarded a penalty after a foul in the box and Marc Jones scored from the spot to snatch the three points.

Llanrhaeadr toasted their title success with a 3-0 win over Carno, with their goals from Adam Burgess, Marc Griffiths and Tom Evans.

A Drew Page goal earned Machynlleth a 1-1 draw at home to Tywyn Bryncrug, with Aled Jones replying.

Churchstoke and Kerry shared the spoils in a 2-2, with goals from Joe Haycock and Andrew Green for the hosts being cancelled out by an own goal and Matt Mumford strike for the visitors.

Meanwhile a late Alec Jones goal guided Montgomery to a 3-2 win at Dyffryn Banw in division two, after Tom Foulkes and Alwyn Jones netted for the hosts, with Sam Davies and Rob Hartshorn replying.

Abermule won 5-2 at Penybont United with goals from Huw McGrath, Charlie Humphreys, Mike Humphreys, Ricky Davies and Will Denham. Alf Roberts and Jordan Parsons netted the goals for the home side.
