BOW STREET Reserves marched into the semi-finals of the Len and Julia Newman Memorial Cup with an impressive 5-1 quarter-final win against Cambrian Tyres Aberystwyth District League title rivals Bont in midweek.
Two second half goals by Jac Williams capped a superb evening for the Mapgies, with Ryan Evans, Shaun Jones and Osian Burrell also scoring.
“I’m delighted with the performance and the result, the boys did extremely well against a good Bont side,” said Street’s Reserves boss Rhodri Jones.
A closely contested first half saw both sides create chances, but it was the Magpies who took their opportunities to score through Ryan Evans and Shaun Jones for a 2-0 advantage.
The second goal came after a superb tackle by John James in his own area had stopped a certain Bont equaliser.
Bont piled the pressure on at the beginning of the second half, but were unable to convert their chances, and the game’s outstanding player, Joe Williams scored a superb individual goal to put Street in firm control.
Osian Burrell added a fourth goal, and although Ben Lewis responded with a consolation effort, the Magpies had the final say when Jac Williams headed home Bow Street’s fifth.
Bow Street take on Machynlleth Reserves or Aberystwyth University Reserves in the semi-finals on Tuesday, 1 May. The other semi-final will be between Padarn United and Tywyn/Bryncrug Reserves or Penparcau.
Bont bounced back with a 2-1 win at Machynlleth Reserves last weekend to move level on points with Bow Street Reserves at the top of the table, with a game still in hand on the Magpies.
Goals from Ben Lewis and FergusMorris with the winner sealed their 12th win of the campaign against much-improved Mach, who had kept in touch through Drew Page’s goal.
Padarn United leapgrogged above opponents Llanilar into fifth place with a 3-2 home win, having opened up a 3-0 lead through goals by Richard Williams, from the penalty spot, Paul Griffiths and Paul James.
Llanilar hit back in the second half with goals from Paul Bonner and Murray Pugh, and felt unfortunate not to have taken a point in the end.
In the bottom of the table clash, Penrhncoch Reserves moved off the bottom of the table with a 3-1 win over Borth United Reserves. Two goals from James Fox and an Owain Wilson goal secured their second league win.
In the Second Division Trophy, Penparcau beat Llanon 3-0 at home, with goals from Rhys Davies, Chris Wylde and Ben Davies securing their win.
In division two midweek action, Penparcau won 4-0 away at Aberdyfi where, after a goalless first half, a free kick from Dylan Bailey broke the deadlock, before Jordan Lee Perry netted his first senior goal for club, and further goals from Lee Morgan and Rhys Davies sealed their win.
Chris Pike’s winning goal meanwhile earned Padarn Reserves a close fought 1-0 win over Llanilar Reserves.
Ifan Jones scored a hat-trick as Tregaron Turfs hammered Aberdyfi 8-1 in the League Cup, with Carwyn Earey, Caradog Daniel, Llion Thomas, Llyr Davies and Iwan Rhys Davies also netting, with Luke Fox replying.
