BOW Street Reserves made a flying start to their new campaign in the Cambrain Tyres Aberystwyth and District League as they avenged their first team’s midweek defeat to Borth, by beating their Reserves 4-0 on Wednesday evening.

Goals by Justin Quinn, Osian Burrell, Ryan Evans and Gethin ap Dafydd ensured that last season’s runners-up got their new campaign off to a flying start. The only goal of the opening half came from Quinn following excellent build up work by Dean Evans, but the second half was more one-sided as the young Bow Street team took charge.Burrell put the Magpies further ahead and two more goals followed from Ryan Evans and Gethin ap Dafydd to kill the game off.Defending champions Bont, who had pipped Bow Street to the title by just a single point last season, began their defence with a battling 1-0 win over Talybont.

In horrendous wind and rain, Fergus Morris scored the only goal of their hard fought midweek match.

Debutant Jac Morris, running the channels well, came close to scoring when he rounded the goalkeeper, only to see his goalbound effort cleared off the line.

At the other end a wind-assisted strike by the keeper nearly caught Bont captain Trevor Jenkins off guard, but he managed to tip it around for a corner kick.

The Tangerines kept more possession and strikers Lee Jones and Jac Morris went close, before older brother Fergus was left unmarked from an Andrew Gilbert corner, to volley home from 12 yards for the winner.

Promoted Dolgellau Reserves, runners-up in division two last season, made a winning start to their new campaign with a 4-2 win over Machynlleth Reserves.

Goals from Joe Ephraim, Darrel Johns, Mike Parkes and Nathan Thomas sealed the points for the hosts.

Padarn United meanwhile made a confident start to the new season with a 5-0 win over Penrhyncoch Reserves.

Paul James scored twice for the home side, with Matt Higgs, Rich Williams and Tegid Owen also on target.

Tregaron Turfs, looking to improve on their fifth-place finish last season, made a strong start to their new season with a 5-2 midweek win at home against Llanilar.

Carwyn Earey and Ifan Jones both scored twice for the Turfs, with Adam Clewes also scoring for the hosts, whilst Ryan Hopkins netted twice for Llanilar.
