CARNO celebrated a full year unbeaten at Ty Brith in the Spar Mid Wales League division one as goals from Ollie Lewis, Peter Rees and Ashley Owen sealed a comfortable 3-0 win over Bow Street.
The Greens didn’t create a great deal in the first 20 minutes, whilst at the other end Dean Evans hit the post from a tight angle for the visiting team.
Carno picked up and hit the post themselves when a corner had flashed across goal, and Ioan Humphreys only just failed to connect with the rebound.
They made the breakthrough in the 40th minute, however, when an Ollie Lewis free kick was expertly directed into the top corner of the net, having struck a Bow Street defender on the way in.
The Greens then made the perfect start to the second half when Toby Evans released Peter Rees to calmly slot home past the visiting keeper.
Ashley Owen then sealed the win with a 30 yard strike which sailed into the top corner after 60 minutes.
The rest of the second half was even, with substitute Sam Williams and then Peter Rees both going close to extending the lead, whilst Bow Street’s hopes of a comeback were foiled when captain Neil Evans was sent off after a tackle on Peter Rees.
On Friday night, Llanidloes Town suffered their third straight defeat - all on the road - when edged out at unbeaten leaders Rhayader Town.
Defeat kept the Daffs in the lower reaches of the table, but they could take heart from a positive display.
A second half own goal from Ryan Biggs proved enough, with the defender slicing a clearance into his own net after keeper Aaron Warrick had saved from Dane Griffiths.
“Ryan was in bits afterwards, but no-one’s blaming him, we’re in it as a team,” said Daffs boss Huw Clarke.
“It was a shame as we did so well, we were the better team in the first half, and buckled down in the second.
“We felt that we deserved a draw, but we’re not getting the results at the moment, we’re down the league and struggling for points, but it’s important everyone keeps their heads up.
“Rhayader said that we were the best team we’ve played this season, but that’s of little consolation when you come away with no points.”Leaders Rhayader are now seven points clear of second placed Berriew who, with a game in hand, kept up the pressure with a thumping 10-0 victory over Llandrindod Wells on Friday.
Karl Seliaerts led the way with a hat-trick for the dominant Rhiewsiders, whilst Richard Davies and George Davies also scored twice, along with further goals from Ross Harris, Matthew Mumford and Dave Roberts.
On Saturday, Aberaeron slipped to their second league defeat of the season when they went down 4-1 at Llanrhaeadr, who moved above them into fourth place in division one.
Gareth Severs scored for the visitors, who were missing six players, whilst the hosts took charge through goals from Tommy Evans, Iain Edmunds, Ben White and Iwan Matthews.Machynlleth are eighth in division one after they registered a solid 3-0 win over Radnor Valley, with goals from Drew Page, Mike Price and an own goal securing the home win.Two goals from Mark Edmondson and singles by Nick Williams and Aston Heath saw Tywyn/Bryncrug register their first league win of the season as they beat Montgomery 4-1.Meanwhile goals from Adam Farmer, Max Lewis and Adam Worton earned Knighton Town a 3-1 home win over Welshpool Town, who had replied through a Will Pritchard goal.
