BOW STREET moved up to fourth place in the Spar Mid Wales League division one with a slightly fortuitous 2-1 win over a plucky Llandrindod Wells.

An own goal and a Tomos Williams effort proved enough to secure the points as the Magpies closed in on third-placed Llanidloes Town, with games in hand.

“It was not our best performance of the season by a long way, but I suppose it is always good to secure a win when not playing at our best,” said Bow Street manager Barry Williams.

The Magpies had taken the lead early on through an own goal, but despite further chances, they were unable to capitalise on their advantage.

Instead, the visitors equalised through Ben Sims just before half time after a period of pressure, and the second half was very even, with chances for both sides.

With eight minutes remaining the tireless Andrew Gittins hit a superb shot which hit the crossbar, and as the ball rebounded in to play, the ever alert Tomos Williams was on hand to hit home the rebound and secure an extremely valuable three points.

Borth United dropped to the bottom of the table as they were beaten 9-2 by high flying Llanrhaeadr at Aberyswtyth, despite replies from Dale Lloyd and Ryan Edwards.

With no sign of an improvement in the wet weather Borth entertained Llanrhaeadr on the 3G pitch at Park Avenue, with the visitors arriving in second position, with five games in hand on leaders Welshpool.

It took them only ten minutes to score the opening goal, with Joe Vaughan netting through a crowded goalmouth, and they nearly doubled the lead on 25 minutes, but Khyam Whytton’s bullet header bounced off the crossbar to safety.

To their credit, Borth responded well and Ryan Edwards’ free kick wasn’t dealt with by the visitors’ defence and Dale Lloyd was on hand to score on his first team debut.

Slowly but surely Llanrhaeadr took control in the next few minutes, however, and Mark Griffiths scored twice, and an unlucky own goal by a Borth defender gave the visitors a 4-1 lead at the interval.

Borth resumed the second half with purpose and within five minutes they had reduced the lead as Dale Lloyd's ferocious free kick was fumbled by visiting keeper Harri Matthews and the alert Ryan Edwards scored from the rebound.

In the next few minutes, however, Khyam Whytton scored two headed goals, and as the match reached it’s conclusion Dan Graham completed a well-deserved hat-trick for a comprehensive 9-2 win for Llanrhaeadr.

Machynlleth registered an excellent 2-1 win over Berriew to move off the bottom of division one, with only their second league win of the campaign.

Goals from Callum Roberts and Sion Jones, with the winner, sealed a welcome victory, to move them above Borth United on goal difference, whilst Berriew netted through Harry Watkins.

Tywyn/Bryncrug meanwhile settled for a share of the spoils in an entertaining 3-3 draw at Aberaeron, having travelled south with a bare squad of 11.

Goals from Laurence Chesworth, Sion Ellis and Sion Edwards earned a battling point for the Meirionnydd outfit, whilst Aberaeron scored through Dan James, with a brace, and Chris Aldritt.

Llanfair United hit back from being a goal down to register a 3-1 win at home to Carno, with goals from Ben Jones Evans, Josh Astley and Paul Griffiths, after Scott Williams had scored first.

On Friday night, goals from Ricky Litchfield, Will Thomas, Ian Probert, from the penalty spot, and Adam Davies had earned leaders Welshpool Town a 4-1 win over Radnor Valley, who equalised at one stage through Steve Morgan.

Two goals from Joe Haycock meanwhile earned Churchstoke a 2-2 draw away at Knighton Town.

Llanidloes Town, whose match at Kerry was postponed last weekend, had hit top gear to secure a convincing 3-0 success against Churchstoke at Victoria Avenue in midweek.

Goals from George Clarke, Peter Rees and Richie Evans secured the home points.
