ABERYSTWYTH’S Rhys Norrington-Davies has been chosen for the Cymru squad for the delayed UEFA Euro 2020.

The former Ysgol Penglais pupil has been plying his trade in the Championship for Stoke City since January on loan from Sheffield United but now turns his sight towards the international stage having been selected by Robert Page for the 26-man squad.

The news was announced on FA Wales’ FA digital channels starting at 7.30pm tonight and Rhys’ proud parents Patrick and Lowri said: “When Rhys face timed us it was explicit on his face that he was overjoyed to be included in the final 26 to go forward into Euro 2020 representing Wales.

“He had a massive smile from ear to ear and was clearly brimming with pride and a sense of achievement.

“He sets himself objectives and always gives a 110 per cent to achieve them, and once again, he has.

“He was also very sad that some of his team mates, who he has got to know really well this season, did not make the cut.”

The 22-year-old attacking full back had joined up with a Wales training camp in Cardiff before heading off to Portugal for another preparation camp last week.

The camp in the Algarve region was an opportunity for the team to prepare for the upcoming friendly matches against France and Albania and was the last opportunity to impress the coaching staff to be included in the final 26 player squad.

The squad then head off to Baku to take on Switzerland on 12 June and Turkey on 16 June before the final group game against Italy on 20 June in Rome.Wales squad:Goalkeepers: Wayne Hennessey, Danny Ward, Adam Davies.Defenders: Chris Gunter, Ben Davies, Connor Roberts, Ethan Ampadu, Chris Mepham, Joe Rodon, James Lawrence, Neco Williams, Rhys Norrington-Davies, Ben Cabango.Midfielders: Aaron Ramsey, Joe Allen, Jonny Williams, Harry Wilson, Daniel James, David Brooks, Joe Morrell, Matt Smith, Dylan Levitt, Rubin Colwill.Attackers: Gareth Bale, Kieffer Moore, Tyler Roberts.
