CARDIGAN Town continued with their excellent early season form with a resounding 9-2 win over Dewi Stars in the first round of the Costcutter Ceredigion League Cup at the King George field.
The Magpies, under the guidance of player-manager James Evans, are still unbeaten in the league after eight games, and along with St Dogmaels they look to be heading for a decent season.
One to shine for the Magpies was front runner Liam Doherty, who bagged four goals, and there were also two for talented midfielder Ben Davies, who was also one of the stand out players.
Young wide man Llion Williams was also on target, as was roving defender Joost Burki - and to rub salt into the Stars’ wounds there was also an own goal.
The visitors battled bravely, but they were generally outplayed and out muscled in the heavy conditions. On target for the Stars were Bryn Jones and Rhodri Morgan.
Costcutter Ceredigion League Cup holders Llandysul were sent crashing out of the League Cup after they were hit for six by local rivals Newcastle Emlyn.
The Swallows, who have lost the services of manager Gwynfor Edwards, after he left to take charge of Carno in the Mid Wales League, fielded a very young side who also found the slippery conditions very tough.
Outstanding for the hosts was experienced campaigner Sam Hall who fired a hat-trick - and there were two for winger Cory Davies and one goal for Scott Lote Williams.
There were also six goals scored at Parc Puw, but it was the visitors Aberporth who helped themselves to the biggest share in a 4-2 success over Bargod Rangers.
There were none better for the Airmen than midfielder Mathew Smith, who bagged a brace, and there was one apiece for James King and Liam James, whilst keeper Ryan Banks crucially saved a penalty when the game was delicately poised. For Rangers, Gethin Rees and Robbie Jenkins were also on target.
The match between Crymych and New Quay was postponed due to the wet weather, as was the division one league match between Felinfach and St Dogmaels.
Ffostrasol - who won the Emrys Morgan Cup back in the mid-seventies - will face Penparcau Reserves in the third round of this year’s competition, after their 2-1 win at Waterloo Rovers Reserves.
The Costcutter Ceredigion League side went 2-0 up in the opening half, thanks to goals from Gwynfor Bowen and Steffan Lloyd Evans, before Ben Marston replied in the last quarter for the Welshpool side.
Lampeter Town, who lifted the trophy in 2014, set up a trip to face New Quay in the third round as they emerged as 4-1 winners at home to Newtown Wanderers.
Dave Ash netted early on for the visitors, but Gareth Evans equalised, before second half goals from Gethin Hunter, Scott Davies and Liam Jones secured their win.
Crannog will host Newcastle Emlyn in round three after they beat Llanrheadr Reserves 4-3 at home, thanks to an extra-time winner from George Colven, who had already netted a hat-trick for the Llangrannog side in the opening 90 minutes.Ryan Broadbent, with a brace, and Michael Roberts scored for Llanrhaeadr.
Meanwhile Cardigan side Maesglas will host Llandysul in the third round of the competition, after they were given a walkover against Newtown club Maesyrhandir.
Bont will take on Llanidloes Reserves in the third round after they beat Kerry Reserves 3-1 at home, with goals from Charlie Parr, Trevor Jenkins and Daniel Owen. Huw Roberts netted for the visiting side.
