A FIESTY encounter resulted in eight yellow cards and three reds as Tregaron Turfs came through their Cwpan Dai ‘Dynamo’ Davies first round encounter with a 4-2 home win over Cambrian Tyres division two outfit Penparcau Reserves.

The Turfs opened the scoring after 20 minutes when livewire captain Ifan Jones took on the Penparcau defence and fired home an unstoppable strike that young keeper Rhys Davies was unable to stop.

Penparcau then equalised from the penalty spot, which was saved first time, but the keeper had moved off his line, and it was re-taken and scored by Chris Wylde.

Tregaron were then reduced to 10 men, early second half, but this only spurred the Turfs on, and when they were awarded a penalty, Cledan Davies made it 2-1.

Penparcau were also reduced to 10 men, and the Turfs scored 10 minutes later through Cledan Davies - but then back came Arky to score through Jordan Lee Perry to make it 3-2 with five minutes left.

Penparcau were then reduced to nine men, and youngster Daniel Owen capped a man of the match performance by coolly slotting the ball under the goalkeeper, to set up a home draw against Crymych.

St Dogmaels faced a difficult assignment at Bow Street Reserves, but some sustained periods of pressure in the second half were rewarded with a 3-2 win.

Rhys Jones had fired the visitors ahead early in the first half, but the Magpies hit back to turn the tables with two goals from Guto Roberts to lead at the break.

The Costcutter Ceredigion League side were far better after the interval and goals from Louis Harding and a second from Jones finally proved sufficient to see the Pembrokeshire based team through.

Aberporth meanwhile cruised into the second round with a solid 4-0 victory over a depleted Dewi Stars outfit, which is coming to terms with losing 10 of their squad from last season to University.

After a bright start from both teams, it was Aberporth who turned the screw on the visitors in a 15 minute spell before half-time,scoring all their four goals.

The second goal was one to treasure as Liam James, who orchestrated most of the play, curled in a beauty from 30 yards. The other goals came from Liam Griffiths, Dafydd Owen and Mathew Smith, the latter two from well worked corners.

The Stars improved after the break, and created a few chances, but rarely troubled the home defence as they were restricted to long range efforts. Iestyn Edwards, one of the students home for the weekend from Bristol University, impressed between the sticks with several outstanding saves to keep the scoreline respectable.

Lampeter Town were far too good for neighbours Felinfach on the day as they coasted to a 6-0 success, with Gethin Hunter bagging a well deserved hat-trick. Liam Jones, Jason Jones, Christy Gale and Rhys Bowden also got on the scoresheet.

Crymych produced one of the biggest upsets as they beat Llandysul 5-1 at Parc Tir Y Dref, where the hero of the hour was Sion Vaughan, who bagged a hat-trick. Gethin Evans and Oliver Evans also netted for the Pembrokeshire-based team.

There was no joy for Borth Reserves as they slumped to a heavy 8-1 defeat at the hands of Dolgellau Reserves, with two goals apiece for Rod Thomas, Dominic Thomas and Rhys Jones. There were singles for Chris Jones and Mike Worsell.

Maesglas overcame Aberdyfi 4-3 with two goals from John Midgley and strikes from Tom Gardiner and Joe Howe cancelling goal from Will Kendall, Tim Holt and George Richards for the visiting team.

Jack Barron meanwhile netted a hat-trick as Penrhyncoch Reserves marched on with a solid 4-0 win over Aberaeron Reserves, with James Fox also scoring.

Goals by Osian Thomas and Harry Whalley earned Talybont were 2-1 winners at Aberystwyth University Reserves, whilst a Charlie Parr hat-trick and goals from Trevor Jenkins and Daniel Owen earned Bont a 5-3 triumph over Corris United.

Padarn United’s match was postponed after Bargod failed to raise a side, and Llanilar were also left frustrated as Crannog’s match was deemed unplayable.

Costcutter Ceredigion League

CARDIGAN Town are the new leaders of the Costcutter Ceredigion League division one, after they thumped rivals Newcastle Emlyn 6-1 on their own turf.

The Reds, still smarting from a 2-0 defeat at the hands of St Dogmaels the previous week, were blown away by the Magpies, with four goals in the first half an hour.

Two from former Crannog flier Dylan Davies and one apiece for winger Llion Williams and midfielder John Curran against his old team mates pretty much put the game to bed before half-time.

The Reds did manage to pull one back just before the break, but Davies completed his hat-trick on the hour mark and Curran added his second to make it 6-1.

There was still more drama late on when Town keeper Steff Marston saved three times from the spot after being adjudged to have moved before the kick was taken.

Meanwhile in Costcutter division three Llandysul Reserves ran out winners with a 3-2 win against Llanboidy Reserves. On target for the Swallows were Kayne Poulton, Matthew Newbold and Daniel Sears, whilst for Llanboidy Gethin Scourfield and Owain Gibbin were the scorers.

Felinfach Reserves were edged out 2-1 at home against Newcastle Emlyn Reserves.
