NEWCASTLE Emlyn moved level on 13 points with Costcutter Ceredigion League Premier Division leaders Crymych after a convincing 7-2 victory over Cardigan Town on Saturday.

Once again, the outstanding performer was Osian Thomas, who helped himself to a hat-trick to take his remarkable tally to 13 goals in just five league appearances.

The scoreline, however, did not tell the full story. Cardigan, despite a difficult start to the season following the departure of several players, battled hard throughout and stunned the visitors by taking an early lead through Dean Thomas after nine minutes.

That goal sparked Emlyn into life. Thomas struck twice, while Timothy Griffiths and Gareth Evans also found the net as the visitors turned the game around emphatically to carry a 4-1 advantage into the interval.

Michael Glover extended Emlyn’s lead just three minutes after the restart, but Cardigan refused to fold and were rewarded when Ahmet-Jamal Mehmet Ahmet reduced the deficit shortly afterwards.

Emlyn continued to press forward and Jonathan Seeley added a sixth goal on 69 minutes before Thomas completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot late on to wrap up another dominant display.

The division’s other fixture saw Llandysul return to league action in style with a comfortable 4-1 home win over Maesglas.

After three consecutive cup matches, Dysul wasted little time in re-establishing themselves, with Cadog Edwards putting them ahead after 12 minutes. Osian Mason-Evans doubled the lead midway through the first half before Iwan Griffiths gave the visitors hope by pulling a goal back on 33 minutes.

James Brown restored Llandysul’s two-goal cushion before the break, and Edwards completed the scoring with his second of the afternoon just before the hour mark.

In Division One, two goals from Samuel Dutnell and another from substitute Jack Brown earned Crannog a 3-0 victory over St Dogmaels Reserves. Elsewhere, there was nothing to separate Felinfach Reserves and New Quay, while Llanon and Pencader United also shared the points after both matches ended goalless.
