BORTH United bowed out of the Spar Mid Wales League Cup with a 4-1 defeat to Tywyn/Bryncrug, in a match that had to be switched to Aberystwyth Town’s 3G pitch at Park Avenue.
Ryan Davies had cancelled out an Aled Jones goal, but Mike Rees restored the lead before the interval, and late second half strikes by Mark Edmondson and Ben Richards sealed it.
“I couldn’t have asked more from the players, they gave me 100 per cent,” said Borth manager Ian Lewis.
“I’m astounded that their goalkeeper wasn’t penalised in the first half, as he appeared to handle the ball well outside his area, but overall I am hopeful that our team’s luck will change.”
Ryan Edwards was unlucky to see a rasping shot hit the upright and rebound to safety, but Tywyn took the lead when Aled Jones scored with a low shot passed keeper Alex Pennock.
Borth quickly responded when a through ball from midfield fell to Ryan Davies, who slid the ball passed the keeper for the equaliser, but the visitors quickly regained the lead when Mike Rees scored with a cool finish.
The visitors held a slight advantage at half time, but Borth started the second half with renewed vigour and Ryan Davies came close with a snap shot, soon followed by a Sam Middleton’s shot being saved by the keeper.
Borth attacked in numbers in search of an equaliser, but in the closing minutes Tywyn secured their place in the second round with further goals from Mark Edmonson and Ben Richards.

There was no way back for the home side, however, as Llani struck twice more through debutant Jones and Biggs who, having scored an own goal the week before, found the net at the right end for his first goal for the club.
