LLANIDLOES Town boss Hugh Clarke celebrated his Spar Mid Wales League Manager of the Month award by watching his side maintain their revival with a top notch a 3-0 win over Knighton Town.
A goal in each half from Josh Matthews and one from Rhys D Evans secured the spoils, with the seventh-placed Daffs now just two points off a top four position.
They have now won six of their last seven league matches, scoring 17 goals.
It was a terrific all round display against a strong Knighton side, who had been reduced to 10 men early in the second half when Mark Jones was red-carded.
Clarke now wants to keep the good run going in this Saturday’s trip to face rock bottom Montgomery, who were downed 3-1 at Victoria Avenue in November.
“It was probably the best we’ve been played since I’ve been manager,” he said.
“Knighton had a good spell for 10 minutes just after they had their lad sent off, but we were very good for 80 minutes. They are a strong physical side, but we dealt with that very well, and on the day we just had too much energy for them.
“We train hard, and it showed. The whole performance was very pleasing, and it makes everything worthwhile.”
Llanidloes had chances in the first half, and led at the break through Matthews, who fired home after George Clarke had played the ball in following a good move.
Knighton looked sharper for a time after the break, but hopes of a comeback ended when Rhys Evans tapped in a second goal, before Matthews notched his second, following a scuffed shot from Evans.
Tywyn/Bryncrug were totally overwhelmed as dominant Hay Saint Mary’s registered an 11-2 win, with Steve Morgan leading the way with a five-goal haul, including four goals in the space of eight minutes at the start of the second half.
The Saints broke the deadlock in the 17th minue when Rob Snedden crossed from the right for top scorer Brendan Hackett to head home, and Hackett soon doubled the lead when slotted home after playing a neat one-two with Steve Morgan.
A mix-up at the back saw Tom Allen Davies pull a goal back on 30 minutes, but the two goal lead was restored when Snedden was brought down in the area and Hackett sent the keeper the wrong way from the spot to claim his hat-trick.
The opening eight minutes of the second half saw Steve Morgan steal the show with a remarkable quick-fire four-goal haul, after Hackett had set him up for his opening goal straight from the kick-off.
Matt Croose scored a header from a Hackett corner for 8-1, youngster Kyle Harding set up Adi Lawford for 9-1, and Morgan then netted another for his fifth.
Jack Biggs also scored a fine individual goal from the edge of the area, but Tywyn had the last say with a superb strike by Nick Williams from fully 40 yards out.
Bow Street could not halt Berriew’s title challenge as a brace from Rob Pritchard and a Karl Seliaerts goal extended their unbeaten run to 15 games, whilst the Magpies slipped to a sixth league defeat.
Rhayader Town remain level on points with leaders Berriew, with a game in hand, after their 2-0 win over Welshpool.
The Red Kites dominated both halves in tricky playing conditions and took the lead when a solo run by Rhys Thomas into the penalty box saw his shot rebound to Ifan Burrell to score from 10 yards out .
Moments later a ball was whipped into the box where Christian Jones at the back post smashed his header in to the net, but it was ruled out for offside, and Ash Jones and Richie Powell also forced good saves.
Conditions worsened in the second half, but Rhayader sealed the points when Ash Jones coolly slotted home from 12 yards.
Llandrindod Wells added to the basement concerns of Montgomery Town as the Spa men notched a 5-3 home win.
Two goals from Elliot Williams and singles from Darren Murphy, Ryan Sims and Kejan Foryszewski sealed the points. Tony Meredith scored a brace and David De Marco also netted for Montgomery.
