BLAENAU Ffestiniog Amateurs were sent crashing out of the Welsh Cup at the first hurdle as they slipped to a 4-2 defeat at Cemaes Bay last weekend.
Keeper Gethin Jones was also sent off late in the match when he fouled Steven Whitaker in the penalty area, and the striker then got up and completed his hat-trick from the spot.
Tam Mortem was their other scorer, having opened the scoring on 15 minutes - but to their credit the visitors kept plugging away after being 2-0 down and two goals from Keiron Ellis kept them in touch right up until the final penalty kick went in.
Llanystumdwy also went out of the cup as they followed a rousing 7-3 win in the Gwynedd League at Nefyn with a 7-3 defeat at Welsh Alliance division two side Llanllyfni.
Neil Thomas, at one time a Welsh Premier League regular with the likes of Bangor City, Haverfordwest County, Llanelli, and also Porthmadog, piled up a rare double hat-trick.
His six goals were scored after Llanllyfni’s opener from Iwan Jones on 27, whilst Llanystumdwy replied through Robat Griffiths after 68 minutes, Mark Cook after 77 and 79.
Pwllheli’s hopes of a cup run were dashed prematurely in a 3-2 defeat at Nantlle Vale, where they trailed three times in the Penygroes derby.
Vale had drawn first blood with Huw Quaeck’s goal on 14 minutes, but joint-player-manager Adam Hall equalised just past the half hour.
Six minutes into the second period, Cai Holdsworth restored Vale’s lead, but Mark Jones replied again for Pwllheli on 71 - only for the home team’s Aaron Hughes to snatch the winner eight minutes from the end.
Elsewhere in the cup, Felinheli beat Llandyrnog United in a 6-5 thriller, which was settled by Dan Hughes’s decider a minute from the end.
Felinheli, who hit two early goals through Matthew Hughes and Iwan Owen inside seven minutes, found themselves trailing 2-4 at half time, after four goals by Mark Roberts.
The Cae Seilo side prevailed with goals by Griff John on 50 minutes, Matthew Hughes on 76, Callum Macdonald 80 and Dan Hughes 89.
Llandudno Albion slammed Llanfairpwll 7-1, with a hat-trick by Duncan Midgeley, and Penmaenmawr won 4-1 at Llanrwst United.Second Qualifying Round North Section Draw: Abergele Town v Pentraeth; Brymbo v Llay Miners Welfare; Cemaes Bay v Prestatyn Sports; Coedpoeth United v AFC Brynford; Corwen v FC Queens Park; Dyffryn Nantlle v Glan Conwy FC; FC Nomads of Connahs Quay v Brickfield Rangers; Gaerwen v Llangefni Town; Lex Glyndwr v Chirk AAA; Llanberis v Penmaenmawr Phoenix; Llandudno Albion v Llanllyfni; Llandudno Junction v Mynydd Llandegai/Menai Bridge Tigers; Llanrug United v Penrhyndeudraeth; Mochdre Sports v St Asaph City; Rhydymwyn v Hawarden Rangers; Saltney Town v Penycae; Sychdyn v Greenfield; Trearddur Bay United v Glantraeth; Y Felinheli v Barmouth & Dyffryn United.
