ASHLEY Owen fired a hat-trick as Llanidloes Town eased into the fourth round of the Central Wales Cup with a 7-2 passage at Montgomery Town.

The Daffs proved too strong for their hosts, who play a division below, and boss Hugh Clarke was happy enough with his side’s efforts - particularly after making a string of changes for the game, due to suspension and injuries."The lads who came in did well, we looked strong and fit, but the only negative was that we had enough chances to have scored more," he said."We need to be more ruthless, but it was pleasing to get through like we did, and it showed the gulf between the first and second divisions of the Spar League. The result was never in doubt."Ashley Owen had put the Daffs on their way with a 14th minute opener, when smashing home a volley after a cross from Gareth Owen had been headed back by Drew Reynolds.

Robbie Hartshorn levelled with a header from a corner, but Llani were soon back in front as Josh Evans crossed for Ed Clarke to nod home.

A defensive mix-up three minutes later saw the visitors increase the lead as Ashley Owen squared for Joe Evans to finish for a 3-1 lead at the break.

Owen made it 4-1 with his second goal of the game after the interval, but Huw Wainwright pulled one back, before Owen completed his hat-trick, and Evans notched his second, before Gareth Owen rounded off the scoring.

Borth United bowed out of the competition with a 4-1 defeat in the heavy conditions at Llandrindod Wells.

The hosts took the lead on 15 minutes through a Stuart Williams penalty, but Ryan Edwards’ good low strike from outside the penalty area beat home keeper Andy Leonard for an equaliser.

Rhys Davies then fired the Wellmen in front, and with five minutes of the first half remaining Kejan Foryzewski scored with a low strike for a 3-1 lead.

As the second half got under way, Lee Jones’ cross from the left was met by Daniel Hopton, but his glancing header missed the far post by inches.

The Wellmen sealed their win on the hour when Shane Pritchard weaved his way into the penalty area and beat keeper Alex Pennock at the near post.

Newcastle Emlyn emerged as 3-1 extra time winners over Four Crosses of the Montgomeryshire League in heavy underfoot conditions at Parc Emlyn.

Crosses nudged ahead in the 72nd minute when right-sided midfielder Nigel Jones fired home, but Emlyn forced extra time through Jake Kelly.

The Reds took the lead in the second period when Kelly was upended and Huw Jones tucked away the spot kick, and Corey Davies claimed a third goal, with Dion Phillips again the provider.

Spar Mid Wales League division two leaders Builth Wells marched on with a solid 4-1 win over visitors Llandysul.

A Richie Powell brace and singles by Adie Jones and Harry Bastable saw off the Costcutter Ceredigion League side, who replied through Chris Harries.

Llanfair avoided a potential upset at Bishops Castle as they notched a 3-1 win, with goals by new signing Nathan Edington, Josh Astley and Ashley Davies, with Niall Thomas replying.
