FORMER winners Tregaron Turfs produced an superb team effort to reach the last 16 of the Emrys Morgan Cup with a 4-2 extra time win at Mid Wales League (South) outfit Penybont.

The Cambrian Tyres Aberystwyth League side, who won the competition in 2007, showed great character to come back from behind twice to claim a thrilling win in the extra half-hour.

Llyr Davies scored twice for Turfs and William Williams once, whilst Arwel Jones had a big impact after coming off the bench to score a wonder goal and create an assist in extra time.

The hosts had twice taken the lead, courtesy of goals in each half from Scott Davies and Phil Ruell, but Tregaron showed great character to come through for a notable away triumph.

Talybont eased into the next round of the competition with an emphatic 7-0 home win over Montgomeryshire League side Four Crosses Reserves.

Owain Thomas and Jamie Evans both scored hat-tricks, after Dylan Benjamin had opened their scoring.

Penparcau will also fly the flag for the Cambrian Tyres District League after they notched a 6-1 win at Trewern, with Ben Holt firing a hat-trick.

Andrew Gittins, Mattie Davies and Jordan Lee also netted for the visitors, whilst Chris Lewis netted a consolation for the Montgomeryshire hosts.

Llanilar also booked their place in the third round of the competition as Ryan Edwards scored twice in a hard-earned 2-1 win away at Meifod, with Arwyn Richards netting for the hosts.

Paul Keegan scored twice as Padarn United also made safe passage with a solid 5-0 win over Costcutter Ceredigion League side Cardigan Town. Tegid Owen, Matt Higgs and Dan Parry also scored to complete the scoring.

Borth United Reserves bowed out with a 4-0 defeat away at Llanrhaeadr Reserves, who had scored twice in the first half through Ryan Broadbent.

The crucial third goal was scored by Michael Roberts on 70 minutes, before Broadbent completed his hat-trick.

Holders Newcastle Emlyn crashed out with a 4-1 defeat at Trefnonen.

A first half goal from Owen Davies, and a quick fire hat-trick from Andy Garmston ensured the Pitmen made progress through to the third round for the first time in their history.

St Dogmaels marched on with a 4-1 success away at Costcutter Ceredigion League rivals Aberaeron Reserves.

Two first half goals from Peter Almond put them on track, before Louis Harding and Chris Morgan doubled their side’s advantage after the break.

Lampeter Town avenged two earlier defeats at the hands of Llandysul to make progress with a solid 4-0 win.

Llandysul’s Dean Jones had missed a penalty, but Gethin Edwards headed Lampeter into the lead, and Gethin Hunter then doubled their advantage.

Edwards blasted a 25-yarder into the top corner for his second goal, and Scott Davies completed the scoring.

Visitors Llanboidy produced a confident second half performance to reach round three with a 4-1 win against Ffostrasol at Troedyrhiw Park.

The west Carmarthenshire visitors took charge with goals from Jack Griffiths and Bartos Koperski, before Ifan Phillips, normally a centre for Crymych Rugby club, came off the subs’ bench to grab two goals on his debut.

Gethin Davies was on target for the Wanderers as he converted a penalty.

Crannog meanwhile recovered from their midweek 3-1 league defeat at Newcastle Emlyn to beat Mid Wales League (South) outfit Newcastle 5-2.

George Colven bagged a hat-trick, with Marc Davies and Robbie Evans also scoring for the Ceredigion men.

Llanfair United Reserves bowed out with a 3-2 defeat at Llanymynech, despite taking the lead twice through Ashley Davies and Owain Jones.

The hosts hit back twice through Mike Whitehouse and Dan Astley, but Ross Lewis missed a penalty for Llanfair, before an unfortunate own goal by Chris Humphreys sealed the win.

Brecon Northcote crashed out with a 6-0 home defeat to Bishops Castle, with Sam Jones and Martyn Ziemann both scoring twice, with singles from Adam Putson and George Mellor.

Danny Barton scored twice as Guilsfield Reserves won 4-1 at Talgarth, with Steve Tomkins and Graeme McGill scoring, before Ben Sharman got a late consolation for the hosts.
